vapersecutor Posted September 19, 2011 #1 Share Posted September 19, 2011 Can someone provide some information about disembarking Voyager in Venice? Specifically: 1. Is there an option to carry your own luggage off? 2. RCCL asks for time you would like to disembark. How well is that honored? We're hoping to catch a 9:20 train and am trying to figure out if that's realistic. Thanks!
Rare steamboats Posted September 19, 2011 #2 Share Posted September 19, 2011 1. Express Check-Out is 4:30 til 7 am. 2. Last departure time was 9:35 am but that was the last airport transfer. Independent guests had several options: 7:45, 8, 8:15, 8:40, 8:50, 9, 9:10, 9:20 and 9:25 am. We were first assigned an airport transfer for 8:30 and changed to the 9:25 am bus. Just make sure that you change your time asap at the guest relation if the one you got does not fit into your plans. In case you want to use the people mover to Piazzale Roma buy your tickets the day before and leave early!! By 9:45 am there was a huge line (mainly because of the three ticket machines). I´d say the wait was at least 2 hours. If you´re leaving early by 7:45 am it shouldn´t be much of a problem to catch your train. Anyway buy the tickets for the people mover the day before (on Friday). steamboats

We were also thinking of stopping at the train station on Friday morning to buy our tickets for our trip to Florence after disembarking. Trenitalia has this new fare scheme, MINI fares, but the catch is that you have to buy them in advance.

yogimax Posted September 19, 2011 #7 Share Posted September 19, 2011 Here ya go. http://europeforvisitors.com/venice/articles/venice-people-mover.htm That looks really convenient and Bus #5 goes directly from P. Roma to the airport!
mjldvlks Posted September 19, 2011 #8 Share Posted September 19, 2011 When we were in Venice, to get from the train station to the Piazalle Roma, you had to start in the opposite direction, cross an old and steep bridge with many steps, made of marble I think [think slippery when wet] and then back track across a couple more smaller bridges. All in all, a difficult walk with luggage. There is also a new bridge directly from the Piazalle Roma across the canal to the train station. From the pictures on Google Earth, it looks like an easy walk accross this bridge even with luggage. Can anyone confirm this?
clivep Posted September 19, 2011 #9 Share Posted September 19, 2011 That looks really convenient and Bus #5 goes directly from P. Roma to the airport! The blue ATVO bus is a better choice. It's 5 Euro single/9 Euro return and is a standard coach with space underneath for the suitcases. Bus #5 used to be a normal bus with no storage for suitcases but a cheap price of just over 1 Euro but they have now put the price up to 5 Euro! Rare steamboats Posted September 20, 2011 #10 Share Posted September 20, 2011 The Alilaguna Blue Line boat is going directly to the airport and it´s within walking distance of the ship. It´s a bit more than the bus. The new bridge at Piazzale Roma unfortunately isn´t much better. There are steps and no ramps. steamboats
Grammy for Crusing Posted September 20, 2011 #11 Share Posted September 20, 2011 When I looked into the transfer from port to airport the schedule seemed to say it would take almost 2 hours for the trip? do you have input on that? It seems to be a physically easier (with luggage etc) option. Becky aka Grammy for Crusing
cozzello Posted September 20, 2011 #12 Share Posted September 20, 2011 We have scheduled a minivan to pick us up at 7 am for a 9:45 am flight on swiss, are we leaving early enough and do we need to request to get off early? Thanks, enjoy your day.
Rare steamboats Posted September 20, 2011 #13 Share Posted September 20, 2011 Grammy, it´s app. 1 1/2 hours to the airport because you´re going all around Venice. Taxi or busses are faster of course. But Venice airport is a mess!! In most cases you can´t drop your bags until 2 hours prior to departure time. There´s a big information screen and as soon as a number (of the check-in counter) shows up for your flight you can do check-in. So if you have a late flight a nice boat trip may be an option :D. steamboats PS: I had flights booked with RCI so I´ve been on a transfer bus. It took us about 20 min from port to airport. MOSusan Posted September 20, 2011 #14 Share Posted September 20, 2011 I have to agree with Steamboat about the airport, it is a mess. No lines, just masses of people. Loved Venice, airport - not so much.
