jetfan0330 Posted October 27, 2011 #1 Share Posted October 27, 2011 Going out of the port of new orleans for the first time on the conquest? I have sailed out of Miami, Ft Laud and orlando. helicopter Posted October 27, 2011 #2 Share Posted October 27, 2011 While I enjoy the day/night before in New Orleans, I have to say Port Canaveral. We really like Cocoa Beach. Takes awhile to get down the river to the gulf in NO.
ryanpatricksmom Posted October 27, 2011 #3 Share Posted October 27, 2011 I've loved the scenery from Miami, Vancouver, NYC, and Seattle. My favorite port to depart from is Baltimore, because it's so close to home....and that means more cruises for me!
flounder315 Posted October 27, 2011 #4 Share Posted October 27, 2011 Galveston for me. It is so close to home and convenient, easy in and easy out, for the ship and the passengers.

Takes awhile to get down the river to the gulf in NO. I have to second this. Love Cocoa Beach. We have cruised from here several times, but last year before boarding the Dream, we were able to stay a few days pre cruise, and it was just like another mini vacation! corkyanige Posted October 27, 2011 #6 Share Posted October 27, 2011 I've only sailed from Tampa and Pt Canaveral (2 times).... but LOVE Cocoa Beach!! Both times we were able to stay a couple days prior to our cruise... just a nice area to spend time!! We have Miami in January and again next December... so we will see if I change my mind. Relayer Posted October 27, 2011 #8 Share Posted October 27, 2011 We love sailing out of Miami best. Nothing better than sailing down the causeway with Key Biscayne and Fisher Island along the way. That last bit sailing past South Beach is awesome!
magic&buddy Posted October 27, 2011 #9 Share Posted October 27, 2011 NYC! Cruising by the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island and the Manhattan skyline can't be beat!
iceleven Posted October 27, 2011 #10 Share Posted October 27, 2011 Seattle maintains a magnificent visual of the coastline for hours after setting sail. It's a really cool city and lots to do pre-cruise, as well.

Rare Tapi Posted October 27, 2011 #14 Share Posted October 27, 2011 San Juan, Puerto Rico! Absolutely the most beautiful sailaway of any US departure point (if the OP is including US territories). Sailing along the walls of Old San Juan, the Governor's Mansion, and the San Felipe del Morro Castle can't be beat. Also, Puerto Rico is wonderful for a pre or post cruise stay. If the OP is only focusing on departure points from the continental US: - Most scenic departure: New York, NY - Best cruise terminal: Miami, FL and Port Canaveral, FL - Friendliest staff: Mobile, AL (R.I.P. :() - Closest drive (for us): Jacksonville, FL - Best departure point for a beach pre or post cruise stay: Port Canaveral, FL - Easiest drive to the airport: Ft. Lauderdale, FL and San Diego, CA - Best itinerary selection: Ft. Lauderdale, FL - Best port with shops and restaurants within walking distance: Galveston, TX

cruise_pirate Posted October 27, 2011 #16 Share Posted October 27, 2011 I like Port Canaveral:) Got lucky in 2008 and got to see a shuttle launch on the last sea day. They shut off all the lights on the ship and tons of people were on deck to watch it go!

jbd2003 Posted October 27, 2011 #18 Share Posted October 27, 2011 I love Port Canaveral. We were lucky enough to see the shuttle launch when we were getting ready to leave for our cruise. What a nice send off.
AWCHIEF Posted October 27, 2011 #19 Share Posted October 27, 2011 Mobile, AL, it was so easy to get in and out of and had a good group of employees. Sadly that is no longer an option due to Carnival pulling out.

LemurCat Posted October 27, 2011 #23 Share Posted October 27, 2011 I think just about every port I've gone out of was ugly. Baltimore was easy to get to, easy to get through, and the staff was nice. But it was ugly until you got out into the bay. Miami didn't strike me as real beauty spot either. Jax is in the middle of an industrial port. Tampa had a junk yard and a container yard next to it. And I have to go past my office to get out of NYC's harbor.
scchasgal Posted October 27, 2011 #24 Share Posted October 27, 2011 Charleston you don't have to pass all the nasty industrial stuff. Passing the Battery, Fort Sumter, Yorktown, Morris Island LH and Sullivan's Island. Bonus points... it is 15 minutes from my house :D
