Fuel Surcharge question (yes, yet another)

Are they charging this? Thought there used to be language about if fuel prices went above a certain level. This seems to indicate that it's mandatory and happening, yet you have to get out the calculator and calculate your own fare (along with the service charge). Their language seems pretty clear:

I should qualify this. I'm using a link through Harrah's Total Rewards. Does this mean they are only doing this to those who cruise on casino comp? Gawd that would be awful if they did. I'm hoping it's just old language.

http://www.harrahs.com/NCL/

"IMPORTANT NOTICE: Add $11.00 fuel supplement per person per cruise day for the first two guests per cabin and $5.00 fuel supplement for each additional guest per cruise day to determine Advertised Cruise Fare Price. The fuel supplement is additional revenue to NCL and is subject to change. For example, Advertised Cruise Fare Price for 7-Day Eastern Caribbean is $599.00 per person plus $77.00 (7 days x $11.00 per day) totaling $676.00 per person (double occupancy). Go to ncl.com for further information. "

Don't worry, they are not adding the fuel charge to anyone right now and it is likely they will not for a long, long time. They language is just to protect themselves in case fuel does shoot up to the levels 3 plus years ago.

That appears to be old language. Here is the relevant language from the terms and conditions:

"IMPORTANT NOTICE: Norwegian Cruise Line reserves the right to charge a fuel supplement without prior notice should the closing price of West Texas Intermediate Fuel increase above $65 per barrel on the NYMEX (New York Mercantile Exchange Index). In the event a fuel supplement is charged, Norwegian Cruise Line will have sole discretion to apply the supplementary charge to both existing and new bookings, regardless of whether such bookings have been paid in full. Such supplementary charges are not included in the cruise fare. The fuel supplement charge will not exceed $10.00 per passenger per day."

The price has been above $65 for some time now, but so far NCL has not implemented the supplement. I know Carnival and others have similar policies, but do not believe anyone has actually reinstated the surcharge.

Well, I'm on hold right now with the special 877 number for booking with Harrah's. I'm guessing it's just CYA language, but you never know. I'll report what I find out.

As the post prior to yours points out, the language you're looking at on the Harrah's site is outdated. The current language uses the words "reserves the right to impose..." Even the amount of the surcharge ($11) in the language you've cited is wrong.

None of the US-based cruise lines are currently imposing a fuel surcharge. They have dealt with higher fuel costs by increasing base fares rather than imposing a fuel surcharge. Cunard, as well as a couple of other lines based outside the US are imposing a surcharge.

I was on hold for over 30 minutes and couldn't wait any longer. May try again today. Seems that by the posts I'm reading here that this was just old language. Would be pretty sneaky to impose on one group but not others so I don't think thats the case.

Not to mention that many people on these boards book via Harrah's, so I think it is pretty safe to say it would be all over these boards if they were doing this- especially because it would undermine the discount.
