Restaurants by Pier 18 Port Everglades

Just learned our check-in time is delayed for our sailing next week. Hoping we can leave our bags with the handlers sooner than the 1:30 check-in so we can head to a restaurant within walking distance of Pier 18-is this a real possibility?

Any suggestions as to how far to SE 17th St which seems to be "Restaurant Row"? Not against walking if it's no more than a mile/mile & a half each way.

It seems that all ships arriving from Europe encounter boarding delays for the next sailing, so what are others' experiences/recommendations? We are on Celebrity.

Thanks!

you can't walk......the pier area is HUGE.....you can drop off your stuff and cab it back to someplace on 17th street if you want....(plus i am not sure how pedestrian friendly the pier area is.....)

there are a number of places on 17th street...your best bet would be to go to

http://www.theharborshops.com/ and there are a couple places there...

THOUGH you will eat PLENTY on the ship!:p

you could probably get to the pier before then......the ship may clear early...i haven't even done a TA so i am not sure....

Usually the luggage can be dropped of hours before the actual passenger check-in opens up. Make sure you keep your carry-on bags, as well as your cruise documents and ID with you to get back into the port.

A good place to hang out would be the Bimini Boatyard, on SE 17th, just in behind the Renaissance Hotel, which is right across from the port gates. That restaurant is about a mile and a half from pier 18, and while there isn't anything prohibiting you from walking there, it's just not a good idea, with port traffic. And since you are using terminal 18 for Celebrity, it must be a weekday that you will be there, so the port will be extra busy with cargo traffic coming and going, in addition to whatever other cruise traffic there will be.

How are you planning to get to the ship in the first place? If taking a cab, just have the driver take you into the port, drop your stuff, and drop you off at whatever restaurant you go to. If a hotel shuttle, and the hotel is in that direction, maybe slip the driver a little extra and see if he'll drop you at a restuarant. Perhaps even enquire at your hotel about a later check-out, and just hang out there.

Thanks- we are driving to Cambria Suites in Dania Beach which has a parking/shuttle to port package and not near 17th at all. Based on your input we will ask what options might be available via their shuttle.

Perhaps we ought to take our own car, drop off luggage, go to lunch and then return to the hotel to park & catch the shuttle to the pier @2. Doable?

Yes that sounds very doable. Lots of people drive in to the port first and drop luggage before either parking their car, or returning a rental car. Then you also have the option of going to any number of places to have late breakfast, or lunch, or generally kill time. I would clarify with the hotel ahead of time to make sure their shuttle will operate at that time for you.
