Opinions Please!! About to Book my First Solo!!

Recommended Posts

I am about to book my first solo cruise (I had one booked previously, but had to cancel due to surgery). Thanks to an offer from NCL's Casinos at Sea, I have it narrowed down to NCL Sun Western Caribbean (April 14)and NCL Epic Eastern Caribbean (March 3). Thoughts about whether my first solo should be on a smaller ship (Sun) or go for the huge ship (Epic). Thanks

Hi!

I'd say go with the Epic. It's an amazing new ship with solo studio cabins & a lounge where you can meet other solo cruisers even if you don't stay in the studios. You just have to come to the lounge at 5:30 or whatever time the solo meet is announced in the paper.

The entertainment & food are great. I liked it so much in the Med in May I went back on in the E Caribbean in Nov & it was even better, a great group of people to do things with.

Western could be nice depending on the ports. Any cruise is better than a day at work they say!:p

  • 1 month later...

im thinking about doing the epic got a cruise already booked on another line but im considering this for my second sole cruise. I was just wondering for those who have done the studio...

how many cabins are there?

im figuring the more the cabins the more the singles

just trying to see if the solo's count is high or low.

i didn't like the epic or its the studio cabins. because you advance book the shows and must go at the time you booked a solo passenger doesn't know if they will meet someone they want to see the shows with. so they are up in the air about what time to advance book. you can change it once on the ship but you wait in lines to do that just like you wait in line to see the show with everyone else who has booked that slot. solo people can't easily meet a few others and then say lets go see the blue man show tomorrow night so we'll get there early and wait. i guess its the same for the circus restaurant, the ice bar and whatever. at the end of the week you can get into the shows without a booking i've been told because they don't fill up. i got pretty sick in the studio cabin. i stupidly didn't remember pulling the room card out of the slot turns off everything in the room including the a/c and heat. i hated the neon glows all around the room and didn't want to find every button i needed to turn off at night so i'd pull the card. i'd wake up in the morning or after a long nap feeling like crap and by the end of the week i was a mess. if i was out of the cabin i felt so much better. the person in the next cabin was just as sick as i so if you are going to be hacking and coughing or making whoopee your neighbors will hear you. keep the card in the slot when you are in the cabin.

Studios were great. That would be my vote. Just book your shows for 10PM so that you can eat dinner with the other people. Sometimes you can even stand by for the earlier shows.

The last night I was able to just walk right in to blue man group as if I had just walked out to use the rest room.

Slept really well in the room- had a non-connecting one. Yeah, it is pricy for a small space, but I'd rather have a smaller room and more people to hang out with.

I have what I hope is not a stupid question. This is my 7th cruise (3rd on NCL) and I have never booked shows prior to the cruise. Is this particular to the Epic? Just curious.

I am about to book my shows for my March 3rd cruise. I think I will book the late show since I believe this will give me the most flexability for dinner. Thoughts?

My first epic cruise I, unfortunately booked early shows the first three nights. Having learned what was said above, I have prebooked all late shows so I can dine with other solos on my up coming cruise.
