Gratuities

My husband and I will be leaving on our second cruise in March. The last time and this time we paid gratuities in advance. From what I am reading on other posts I get the feeling we should tip more. Is there something we don't know?

The poeople on this board are a very small percentage of those who cruise. I would guess that most cruisers feel that the gratuities as suggested by Carnival are enough. I will give my room steward and waiter and extra $20 each, and assistants an extra $10 each, IF I feel that the service has been especially good. So far, about half of my cruises. I go prepared but it is NOT a given.

More or less...the eternal debate goes on. Prepaying is fine for cost control purposes and setting a budget. If you choose to tip your waiter and/or room steward a little extra, that is your choice. Whatever you feel comfortable with and reflects your appreciation for the service you receive.

I was just going to post a thread on gratuities because I am curious what other people tip and to who.

I usually tip the room steward, the head waiter and the support waiter (I don't know the term for that guy.... ;)) $20 each in addition to the normal prepaid gratuities. If we have a bartender or bar waiter that has been good to us, I will tip him/her $1-2 a drink. We usually find that special waiter(s) on the first day and primarily use them through the whole trip.

I'm curious if I meet that unspoken/unwritten tipping standard... I'm also curious as to whether people tip other crew members.

We prepaid at the time of booking. It was an option given to us by our travel agent.

Yes, I believe we prepaid ours when booking our B2B on CCLs website. Personally, I seem to appreciate our stewards more and always tip them $10 at both the beginning and end of our cruise. They always seem so nice and service our room at least twice a day.

I booked directly with Carnival. Cruise is all paid for, can I still prepay?

I'm not sure. I just clicked on to add prepay when that option was offered during the online booking. Its really not a big deal. They would add the auto-tip to your account once onboard and it would be charged to your credit card at the end of cruise. I guess you could call CCL and inquire about prepaying if you wish to get better control of your budget.

Yes- just call Carnival and they will take your credit card number and you are done.

Be patient...

Hopefully H28(he is a CC writer that will give you a zillion reasons/rationalization not to leave the daily grats/whatever you want to call them) will realize they writer is not asking if they should leave them, but how and when to pre-pay them.

I always tip the waiter/waitress in the casino, the Coffee shop, dining room, and specialty restaurants if I feel they have given me good serice. I also always start off my cruise with a little something to the room steward, and ask him to always keep my cooler full of ice. If he does this ( which they always do ), then he will get another extra tip at the end of the cruise.

Additional tipping is a personal choice. When I am on vacation, and I am waited on with a smile, etc. I believe it is worth a few bucks here and there.

Enjoy your cruise.

You are above average. Do you realize that 15% of the cost of the drink is added before your 1-2 dollars?

Your money your choice.

I too tip my favorite bartender and/or cocktail server an extra buck here and there. Like the other poster, I tend to have one or two favorites on the ship and go to them. Outside of Carnival, it is usually in the observation bar.

that's ok, golfadj jumped in to remind people about removing tips even though its off topic, this group of people cannot let it go.

Get over it already, if you dont want to tip, dont tip. people are tired of the excuses posted already.

Can I still prepay the tips even though our cruise is paid off?

Where do I find this info on Carnival's website?
