Questions from a newbie to Celebrity.

Having never sailed on Celebrity before...

Has anyone eaten ONLY at the Ocean Cafe?

We were hoping to eat exclusively at the Ocean cafe is that possible?

Do they offer a selection of soups like RCI?

Can we get away with jeans and a nice shirt at dinner in the MDR?

Are Flip flops at night a no no? We will be spending most of our time in the evening in the casino!!

We are Platinum on RCI how does that exchange with Celebrity?

DH and I are looking to take a quiet cruise and NOT get dressed up.

Thank you in advance for all of your help!!:D

You can eat every meal in the oceans cafe, please do. I hope you will dress up in something more than jeans, a tee shirt and flip flops if you choose to eat in the main dining room.

While I appreciate your desire for a relaxing cruise I encourage you to make use of room service in the evening for your casual lifestyle.

Our first celebrity cruise is this spring. However, research that I've done on these boards indicates that the buffet dinner on celebrity is a little more repetitive and without as much variety as on RCI.

Hope this helps.

The dress code specifies pants/trousers, which I interpret to mean no jeans. It does also say that flip-flops are not allowed for dining in the evening, but I don't know about the casino.

The dress code used to say NO JEANS but they took that out. In reality you WILL see NICE jeans in the MDR at dinner. (Though they are heavier and hotter than a simple pair of dockers.) No flip flops. No shorts, but you will see women in nice capris. Of course on the 2 formal nights this wouldn't be appropriate and the buffet would be a better option. Or Bistro on 5 ($5pp charge for a great meal of crepes, paninis, soup, salad, desserts.... and well worth every penny).

But yes you certainly COULD eat every night in the buffet but I'd think it would get repetitive.

You can wear Jeans to dinner on non formal nights with no rips ! my wife does wear dark denim with heels and a blazer etc and looks amazing and fits into the Modern Luxury Style Celebrity is marketing itself as these days!

just no flip flops and ripped light faded jeans! and tank tops!

The points are not considered the same on Celebrity as they are on RCI. I am Platinum on RCI mostly due to my Celebrity points. However, I am still Select on Celebrity because they do not count my RCI points as highly.

How condescending and snotty. They will be in the buffet, not spoiling your formal night.

What an elitist comment to make. Jeans are actually allowed now in the MDR on non formal nights.

If you are that worried about jeans in the dining room then maybe Crystal or Silverseas is the cruise line for you.

While yes flip flops are not allowed nor appropriate, a lot of us like to go on vacation to dress resort casual. Not everyone likes to wear a three piece suit on vacation.

You could eat in the buffet ... but they don't have nearly the selection you're used to on Royal Caribbean. Celebrity has a small segment of the buffet open. It does not mirror the dining room. We've eaten dinner in the buffet on several occasions and it was generally salad bar, pasta bar and pizza. Plus I think they generally have sushi.

Better to plan to eat in the MDR on non-formal nights and eat in the buffet or specialty dining on formal nights. Specialty dining is fantastic and worth the extra bucks!

Celebrity is more relaxing that RCI, but it is not more casual and people are more sticky about dress codes, so just be aware :)

Ouch!

Yanno, I choose to see people for who they are and not what they wear. It's kind of like judging a book by its cover and we all know that while the cover may be less attractive, what's inside might very well be much better than its dust cover.

Just had my honeymoon on the celebrity silhouette. We were disappointed with a lot of things that happened on the ship.

Food:

Disappointed with food on our ship - the buffet was very repetitive and there was never a place to sit. We tried going at different times for breakfast and lunch with the same issue of no tables available. The main dining also left you with something more to be desired. The food was bland and most nights we had to send our food back because either the steaks were so tough you could barely cut them or the food was just not edible. We did order room service for breakfast - it was just okay so we didn't order it again. We also ordered late night dinner and it was also just okay.

Our favorite tasty meal was not even on the ship it was at one of the ports we stopped at.

Attire:

In the main dining you were good with a nice shirt nothing fancy and jeans. But on formal nights if the man didn't have a blazer the maitre d would make you put one on. But we did notice this to depend on if you were buddies with him or something. We saw a man walk in on formal night with a black t shirt that had a print of a white tux shirt on the front and the maitre d didn't say anything to him or made him wear a jacket. But when this gentleman walked in with his cowboy boot cowboy hat and a very nice button up shirt/jeans he made him put on a jacket. Doesn't make sense to me.

Hope this helps a bit...

This is not exactly correct.

Cruise credits on X and points on RC are never "combined" at all. Each line credits only cruises on its own ships.

Where the reciprocity comes in pertains to status. If one has earned Platinum status on RC, one is Select on X (and vice versa). Diamond or Diamond Plus on RC = Elite on X.

We are Platinum on RC, with 38 points. When we booked an X cruise for this past December, I called the Captain's Club and gave them our Crown and Anchor numbers, which allowed them to issue us CC numbers. We were then listed as Select CC members with 0 credits.

Since we had an AQ cabin on the Solstice, we are now listed as Select with 2 credits, and still Platinum with 38 on RC.

Hope that helps!

One alternative for you would be to order from that evening's MDR menu and have it delivered to your room. It arrives all at once (unless you are in a suite) but you could eat in your jammies if you chose to!

The menu at the buffet does not change much in the evening at all and I would be sick of eating there after 2 days. Bistro on 5 is a good choice for one or two dinners as well--limited menu but very good food for $5.

OK, I guess I'm wrong about the cruise credits. However, RCI did combine my Celebrity points. I had one cruise on RCI which gave me 2 points. Because of my history with Celebrity, RCI gave me the Platinum status for that cruise. It was my only cruise on RCI yet I am Platinum with 8 points because they added on my Celebrity points.

No, the reason you have 8 points is because Royal changed their system from cruise credits to a days-at-sea point system. So those 8 points are because of the RC cruise you took. In the changeover, they had a formula to switch from credits to points.

Here is a quote from the RC webpage (emphasis mine):

The benefits of the programs will stay independent, and the number of sailings a member accrues on each brand will not be combined. You will earn the Cruise Credit or Cruise Point for the brand you are sailing as long as you are a member of that brand's loyalty program.

Dress code discussions bring out many comments and some do not reflect the reality of the rules on board a Celebrity ship.

1. Jeans are perfectly acceptable in any restaurant on the ship including Specialty restaurants except for formal nights. In addition a collared shirt is appropriate if you wish with those jeans. Celebrity used to restrict jeans but that was removed last years.

2. Dining options are MDR, Specialty restaurants, room service with same menu as MDR and buffet.

3 The buffet on Celebrity is excellent although for dinner it is not a full buffet as you will get get for breakfast and lunch.

4 The dress code applies only to the dining rooms therefore flip flops are fine in the casino. I would not wear them to dinner however..

The mode of dress you mentioned is fine and I would not want to miss out on one of the most memorable parts of your cruise and that is the Main Dining Room

espmass-you should be on equal levels with both cruiselines. They don't combine points, strictly speaking, but whatever level you rise to on one, the other will raise you to their comparable level. It's always been that way with me. I have 8 cruises with Celebrity and 4 with RCCL and another Celebrity coming up in 12 days.

Check with the cruiselines or your TA.

Sigh...yet another inflammatory dress code thread. OP, in future you might want to post your questions on different threads as it does get a bit confusing when questions of food, dress and loyalty status are all addressed in one thread.

Yes, you can wear jeans as noted above but you will definitely be in the minority. If that's ok with you, then that is your decision.

As for the dining question, the buffet is my least favorite place to "dine" onboard, but I like to enjoy a leisurely dinner with waiter service and I like to get dressed up. Even though I have had some tasty food at the buffet, I just don't care for the feeding trough mentality of some guests and having to get my own food. It is great for breakfast, afternoon tea and sushi, especially if sit outside and enjoy the aft view.

Celebrity has so many wonderful specialty restaurants to enjoy. I agree bistro on Five is a great casual option and Blu is wonderful (for Aquaclass guests).
