zqvol Posted January 26, 2012 #27 Share Posted January 26, 2012 I see on some past Fun Times mention of a martini tasting or wine tasting. It says it is offered at a special price. How can I find out the price before i go? Is it worth it? The price is not that much but the martinis are horrible. If you are a martini drinker don't waste your time or money, just get a decent martini and be done with it.

elsplace2 Posted January 26, 2012 #29 Share Posted January 26, 2012 I'm not sure if they changed the way they do their Martini Tastings on Carnival....but I didn't like the way they did it when I was last on the Freedom. The bar was packed with other people having their own drinks and the bartender was very busy and he put the card in front of me on which flavors I wanted....but I ended up leaving after 10 min. since, he didn't get back to me, yet. I guess if you went at a good time, and you wanted to get 4 martinis for $17. which I think is a good price for a Martini, then go for it!! I like the way NCL does it....they devote a certain time, and a whole bar to their martini tasting where we all get one martini at a time, while the bartender talks about the martini flavor and jokes around and does some cool ways of pouring, etc.
SardisGrandma Posted January 26, 2012 #30 Share Posted January 26, 2012 Love the wine pairing. Last year on the Dream it was $15 & we got 3 white 2 red & 1 champayne. I've never seen the martini tasting. Anyone know when or where its held? Please I hope its not right after the wine pairing.
mrsbean1990 Posted January 27, 2012 #31 Share Posted January 27, 2012 The piano bar on Magic also made an excellent dirty martini. Mmmm.
kcdancerkc Posted January 27, 2012 #32 Share Posted January 27, 2012 I can't wait to sail in November. I've never had a martini. I'm putting it on my list of things to try. They look tasty! Chocolate Martinis are heaven in a glass!
TheSailinSOB Posted January 27, 2012 #33 Share Posted January 27, 2012 Just found my old post. They are YUMMY. AWWWW Tommy! He is an awesome barman. I deff want to try the Martini Tasting. They do look like a good size. The Chipotle one sounds kinda scary but hell, I'll try anything once
mousey Posted January 27, 2012 #34 Share Posted January 27, 2012 Here are my 4 Martinis from the Martini tasting!! They were delicious and totally worth it. The Melon one was my favorite- didn't taste like a regular melon martini- it tasted just like a watermelon!! Mmmmmmm It was $17 and I would do it again.....and again to try all of them :D OMG! After 1 of those I'd be bombed, after 2 I'd be unintelligble, after 3 I'd be dancing on the table with a lampshade on my head, and after 4 forget about it! Who knows what I'd do!;) How could anyone drink more than two of those and still walk? Are those fullsized? OMG that is ba na nas!
cruisinJenF Posted January 27, 2012 #35 Share Posted January 27, 2012 They are not full sized- but they are not super tiny either! I would say 2/3 the size- maybe a little less. I felt great afterwards ;)
jg51 Posted January 27, 2012 #36 Share Posted January 27, 2012 Here are my 4 Martinis from the Martini tasting!! ... :D Hello, "cruisinJenF." Thanks for the link to your picture of martinis. We noticed the "food050.jpg" in your URL, so we changed that to "food049.jpg" and got to see one of your food photos. We would LOVE to see all of your food photos, but would prefer not to do it by changing the URLs, one at a time. We wonder if we could beg your permission to look at your "album" in a more convenient way. We would need a "higher-level" URL -- sort of a "home page" to "flip" through your food photos easily. (Maybe you even have your photos descriptively labeled, so that we would know which food is pictured?) Thanks, in advance, for considering the possibility of sharing this. afcj1 Posted January 27, 2012 #39 Share Posted January 27, 2012 You can over the Martini tasting in the mdr, I did on the Miracle in Dec. REALLY? If I can do that, I'll be very, very Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaappy;):D It always seemed as tho whenever I pass the bar offering them, I'm always on my way somewhere. Definitely will ask when on my upcoming Magic cruise. Thanks:)
rtfnl Posted January 28, 2012 #40 Share Posted January 28, 2012 Acjf1, yes I did on the Miracle. I asked the bar waitress and she said that I could. She went and got someone to take my order. I was told to keep the glasses. Also, every night someone came by offering a shot of liquor with whip cream and you kept the small glass. I don't remember the price. Those shots where you keep the little glass- with a colored bottom- are really small compared to the glasses at the bar for the Martini Tasting. I have a large collection of those colored Carnival shooter glasses :). They make cute souvenirs! If those are the glasses the MDR does the Martini tasting in I would defiantly go to the bar. They are MUCH larger at the bar :)

1maggie1 Posted January 28, 2012 #44 Share Posted January 28, 2012 Is the wine tasting a one time event per cruise? Don't remember it from our cruise last June. Taking one in March and this sounds like a very good idea!
rtfnl Posted January 28, 2012 #45 Share Posted January 28, 2012 Cruisinjen, the shot and martini glasses were different. The martini tasting served in the mdr used the same glasses as the bar

schultz Posted January 29, 2012 #49 Share Posted January 29, 2012 I would also like to know when they have the martini & wine tasting. Is it posted in the capers? Do they have it more than once during a week cruise? Is it in the MDR during dinner or in the main bar where the casino is? Also can you sample only reds or do you have to sample whites as well?
