any time dining--dessert only?

We have any time dining for our nest cruise on the miracle. Is it alright to go to the mdr and only order dessert? It will only be 2 of us. I don't want to miss the bitter and blanc and the creme brulee but we don't always like to eat dinner in the mdr. Should we tell the hostess or wait till we are seated and just order dessert only? Has anyone done this? Thanks.

Don't give it a second thought. Nothing wrong with it at all. I've seen people use ATD just for appetizers. As said previously, ATD is about flexibility. It would be no more "offensive" than those people who order 2 full entrees (I've seen that many times). Go and enjoy !

I really think that ATD and happy hour are two different things....I go to happy hour and I don't have the same expectations of when I'm in a restaurant having apps and ordering a drink and then 20 minutes later having them ask me if I want an entree..........that's not really like ordering dinner on a cruise is it???????????????

Have you done ATD? That's the whole point of it. Come when you want, eat what you want and leave when you want. I go on a cruise to do what I want, and on my last 7 day cruise on the Dream in January, I did not want to go to the MDR every night. No one cared and no one missed me, but on the nights I showed up, they were happy to have me and for me to have whatever I wanted.

I've ordered an entire meal of appetisers, no one cares. Especially in ATD, and especially if it's just a table for two. Then the waiter's don't have to juggle the courses.

I'm quite sure they wouldn't make it SEEM like it was a bid deal.......that's what customer service is.........

I guess there are a couple of ways to think about this........if you show up in the MDR and tell the hostess that you are just there for the pastries or appetizers....then I suppose that on the one hand they have less work to do.......but on the other hand.....they are trying to serve 15 or 20 other people a full meal.....and you are interrupting them..........

If you only want a soup or an appetizer and a cake.......then go somewhere else.......don't interupt their flow........

I would never in a land based restaurant.....walk in and ask for an appetizer and dessert.........but that's just me.........and sister.....

Personally we would not do this as we enjoy the nice meal in the DR.

If the cruiseline thiought this was very disruptive they would not allow it. Lets agree to disagree. icon7.gif

Do not see why people have to attack others for their opinions.

I'm sure that they would be APPREAR TO BE fine with this..........but it's a bit tacky......and rude.......the servers in the MDR want to serve you a fine meal.....to treat them like they are short order cooks.....seems cheap....

People are seated in YTD in the order that they appear in the dining room.....to try to facilitate everyone being waited on at about the same time.........no matter what time you come in.....they attempt to seat people coming in with the same server......to just suddenly jump to appetizer and dessert which are two entirely different and opposite courses.....would through everything off.........

I think it's rude, crude and I can't think of a single reason that I would ever consider doing something like this......Sorry, if you want a Golden Corral type of a meal.........go to the Lido deck...........[/quote

I find it funny that you would say that. I am not trying to start an issue, but our server we got to know quite well and she actually thanked us she was just going down to get a tray of desserts for another table. Remember, ATD people come it at all different points of time. Now if I was in the MDR, I wouldn't do it. Or, if I did, I would sit patiently while the others at my table dined and order dessert when they do.

As for Golden Corral, I have never dined there...if that's a name of an actual eating establishment. But with all of the comments on being corraled in the buffet lines....LOL

Also, have you ever waitressed? There are nights where a reprieve from the normal are nice and unexpected.

I might ask, is it more rude for me to sit and order appetizers, a main course, and dessert if I'm not planning on eating one of the courses? I find that way more disrespectful in more than one way. Not only for the waitstaff, but I was brought up not to waste food, as well as others who may be waiting to dine. Cheap? or Wasteful?

I respect your opinion, please respect mine. ;)

OP--Just remember it is YOUR vacation. Don't let someone else ruin it. :)

My sister and I often don't order dessert......

OMG, how rude and tacky. Don't you know the servers are in the routine of serving a full meal WITH dessert.

You are throwing them off for your own selfish ends.

RUDE, RUDE, RUDE, TACKY, TACKY, TACKY!!!!!!

Leenieweenie is just a childhood nickname. I think you were wandering way offtrack, lol. Ha ha. Also thanks for all the input- and I still feel we will be okay to just order dessert. We will not be interfering with anyone else's meal, so maybe an easy table will be welcomed by our server!:)

I don't think there is a problem with going to the MDR for just dessert (and I see why someone might, because I too would not want to miss the creme brulee or GM souffle or Bitter n Blanc), but I wonder...if one is going to get dressed enough to go to MDR for dessert, why not go for the entire meal? The reasons we may skip MDR and go to Lido would be if we didn't want to get dressed for it or if we were wanting to eat a quick meal (in which case, we wouldn't also have time to go to MDR for dessert).
