penwah2002 Posted February 20, 2012 #1 Share Posted February 20, 2012 I just have a quick question. NCL is advertising their Bermuda cruises and in the advertisement it states you can come back from being on shore all day and enjoy the casino. I did not think gambling was legal there, so I am wondering how this happens?
SailBadtheSinner Posted February 20, 2012 #2 Share Posted February 20, 2012 There have been proposals to allow gambling, but I not aware of any changes. Here are links to recent threads at this forum: Bermuda Tourism Board Recommends Legalized Gambling in Bermuda - http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1526811 Poll: Bermudians Favor Allowing Cruise Ship Casinos to Open While in Port - http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1542641 Transport Minister Says Onboard Gambling is Under Consideration - http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1544618 Sheehan calls for ships casinos to be open in Bermuda - http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1558718 Of course, maybe NCL has some insider information that is not known to the cruising public. I for one, would book a cruise to Bermuda whether or not the ship's casino is open. SBtS
njhorseman Posted February 20, 2012 #3 Share Posted February 20, 2012 No ship's casinos can be open while in port in Bermuda. Proposals to allow them to open have been floated a couple of times in recent years...the last being a couple of months ago, but to date the necessary laws to allow it have not been enacted. Do you have a link to the ad (if it was on the Internet)? NCL knows darn well it's not permitted...in fact their CEO has been lobbying hard to have the law changed. calmpets Posted February 20, 2012 #6 Share Posted February 20, 2012 I actually read it as spend three days ashore and then come back onboard to enjoy our gambling, etc. It doesn't read to me as if they are implying gambling is available every evenings. It can be read the way the OP has interpreted it.
calmpets Posted February 21, 2012 #8 Share Posted February 21, 2012 It can be read the way the OP has interpreted it. No argument there. I'm just saying I don't think it's flagrant misdirection, since it can be read multiple ways.
