Playa Palancar or Paradise Beach

Snorkeling is going to be about $40 apiece. You can go online to Playa Palancar's website and they have a contact email address for Dalila Divers. That is the name of the diving outfit on location at Playa.

Can anyone direct me to the Playa Palancar website? I can't seem to find it with a google search. Do they go by another name?

Are the chairs free? I do plan to eat and drink something but do you have to rent the chairs or walk up sit down and a waiter will come by???

Chairs were free last time (and everytime) I've been there-I think you had to ask for cushions. Just find you a spot and a waiter will find you. They are attentive but not pushy. David has been one of our favorties and his English is very good which in nice cause my Spanish is very bad :rolleyes:

I think that Palancar has a website and a Facebook page that would probably give you more info about snorkeling. I would google them to see what you can learn because I"ve never done anything there except lay in a beach chair and drink mango margaritas :D

We are group of 4 ladies. One has some knee issues. In Cozumel I was interested in going to Chankanaab, but one of the gals thought it would be too much walking. They talked about Paradise Beach, but snorkelling doesn't look good there. How much walking for Playa Palancar or Chankanaab? I have been to Chankanaab as part of a Beach Buggy tour just for the snorkel part. I have been reading about how much other stuff they have to do there.

Not any walking involved at Palancar. Taxi lets you off at the entrance and then you walk in to the beach....maybe 100 feet. I'm bad with distances but I don't remember ever thinking that the walk was long. Once there, grab a chair and sit just a few feet from the water or up in the shade which is just a little bit further back.

Just got back from Playa Palancar and can confirm some things:

 

1. It's all cash and menu prices are listed in pesos. They accept US$ at 11 pesos to the dollar

2. Wooden loungers, didn't think to ask for cushions and didn't see any

3. Snorkel from Palancar is $35 per person, half price for a ride along in the boat. We were taken by Zodiac to an old sailboat and waited for a while while they shuttled more people until we had 9 snorkelers and 3 divers. Good guide who stayed in water with a life ring while boat followed behind during the drift snorkel. Somewhat cloudy so visibility wasn't the best. Keep in mind the reef is about 15 feet below the surface so it's not real close snorkeling. Drifted for about an hour and saw plenty of fish, a stingray, big black grouper and a moray eel. Snorkel vests were required. Bottled water provided for free.

4. Food is decent and service is low key, but good.

5. Like all beach clubs, they have the vendors that try to sell their goods, but they aren't high pressure like in Jamaica.

For those of you that have been here...did you see any peacocks? I keep seeing pictures of peacocks when I google search for pictures. :D

This is the website. I had trouble finding it previously too as it is listed under a different name. Not sure about the face book page but maybe try the same name as the website.

There is not much on their FaceBook page. And yes they do have lots of peacocks that hang out there under the palm trees and stroll around the beach :D

Did anyone see the picture they have on there of the mexican raccoon and someone commented "too bad he was ate by the crocodile" ?? They have crocodiles there??? Anyone seen any? :eek:

I have seen a coatamundi there which looks like a possum or raccoon but have never seen a croc or heard about one ;) Palancar is where we go everytime we are in Coz and have never had a bad experience. This May we have decided to rent a car and see the other side of the island but we are still going to stop there for a bit.

Yes, that's what it is. I've just seen several references from the people there saying they are the "Mexican raccoon", so that's why I referenced it that way.

 

I'm really leaning toward visiting this beach. We have been to Chankanaab twice now and is by far one of our favorite beaches in Cozumel. However, I think it's time to move on and explored other places. I just hope this one doesn't disappoint. (I'm very well aware that there isn't as much to do and it's a small beach and no way to compare with Chankanaab, but that's what I'm looking for...something different). :D
