Carlyzmom Posted March 4, 2012 #3 Share Posted March 4, 2012 I saw that too - on the web cam. Maybe she just felt like backing in. ;)

EmmasNana Posted March 4, 2012 #6 Share Posted March 4, 2012 I thought that the Magic usually backs in, although on the day we were to get on her it pulled in forward because of fog.
5waldos Posted March 4, 2012 Author #7 Share Posted March 4, 2012 From a false rumor. Apaprently John Heald posted it on his blog this morning so likely true.
Cindy Posted March 4, 2012 #8 Share Posted March 4, 2012 When I got on the computer this morning it looked like the ship was starting to turn. I did some other things, and when I clicked back on the webcam Magic was already pulling into the terminal. Somebody on the webcam chat link at the bottom of the screen said she was having a hard time trying to turn, but I haven't heard anybody mention a problem. For some reason the USCBP was also slow to clear the ship this morning. John Heald posted on FB that they were about an hour late starting disembarkation. He didn't say anything about thruster problems.
Jamdug73 Posted March 4, 2012 #9 Share Posted March 4, 2012 What ever the problem, I hope they have it fixed by August. :D
waiting4acruise Posted March 4, 2012 #10 Share Posted March 4, 2012 Apaprently John Heald posted it on his blog this morning so likely true. Sorry That is false as John did not post a blog this morning. And he did not make any mention of this on his Facebook page either.
5waldos Posted March 4, 2012 Author #11 Share Posted March 4, 2012 What ever the problem, I hope they have it fixed by August. :D I hope they have it fixed in 21 days! And although I was told John had mentioned it- I don't see it either. Oh well- we'll see if they get out ok- if they can't turn around it will be an interesting departure- wonder how the Captain is at backing up?

EmmasNana Posted March 4, 2012 #13 Share Posted March 4, 2012 They back down the channel may times. They turn in the basin at the other end. This was the case when we were on her. I believe there were a couple of tugs, but don't really recall.
5waldos Posted March 4, 2012 Author #14 Share Posted March 4, 2012 Well- whatever the explanation- the ship usually heads in the other direction when it docks so there must be some explanation. Will wait to hear.

mairem17 Posted March 4, 2012 #17 Share Posted March 4, 2012 The Carnival Triumph parked the same way yesterday. Most likely it is just he pilots choice on whether or not to park one way or another.

kwbrad Posted March 4, 2012 #19 Share Posted March 4, 2012 The problem yesterday with the Triumph was the wind, she was brought in with tugs. She took a long time to turn around yesterday afternoon as well, it seemed longer than normal.

Border Granny Posted March 4, 2012 #21 Share Posted March 4, 2012 Just a thought....John Heald said on his facebook post that they had a customs/border patrol inspection this morning, and I believe they would know that before they dock. They may have wanted to get docked as quickly as possible so that could start and not delay debarkation. Then, they would turn when they leave, once everyone is on the ship, most of them don't really care so much what time they leave :D

Havinsnest Posted March 4, 2012 #24 Share Posted March 4, 2012 He just posted to FB The Captain had to dock portside side today as you will see from the webcams because when we arrived this morning there was a huge car container ship across the bay and she had a large fuel barge tied up next to her. This meant there was no turning space so those who like to watch on the webcam will see the unusal sight of the turn being done on departure.
