How do these look??

I just can't justify spending $100's on cold weather clothes I won't wear (hardly) ever again

and don't really need. Thanks for your advice

The poncho or the rain slicker are the only two that are water PROOF. The others are rain resistant so you will get wet if you are out in rain for any length of time. They are not breathable. Do you have any kind of rain coat you wear in Florida that has a hood? If you do wear the french terry hoody under it. The quilted jacket would be ok if too if again you put something waterproof over it.

Don't know when you're going or if you're adding an inland tour rather than just the cruise. Have worn shorts in AK in July although also had long sleeves and optional layers.

My thought would be to take the Totes poncho to throw on if you need rain gear or even just to block the wind on top deck when at the glaciers. (You might also stick in some of those lightweight stretchy gloves for those times.) That could also come in handy on other trips and is easily stored.

A zip-front sweat shirt could be used as a jacket underneath. Mostly, think of layers that you could peel off if necessary.

Envy your trip. Would love to go up there again!

I'd go with this one http://www.totes-isotoner.com/product/totes-plaid-lined-slicker.do?sortby=ourPicks

It looks like it's water resistant, longer length, hoodie, those are all good features to have in Alaska. I'd also size it up to be able to layer underneath. If it were me, I'd go with the lavender color, the others are a bit glaring. I'm just not into neon clothes :)

I live in Florida too...although up in the norrhern tip;)

I got a Columbia jacket a few years ago at Kohl's for a bargain price.

It is a 90.00 jacket and cost me all of 25 bucks:D....It is a lightweight

fleece......not bulky but is very warm and have used it on all my

Alaska cruises.:)

Thanks for posting the links.... I ordered a few of the hoodies to wear on our Alaska cruise under a jacket. I'll use it as a layering piece and can take it off if I get warm.

I think the totes jackets might work for you if you layer.

and with coupon same price.

These are both good. Please take the suggestions that you have been given in multiple postings to heart. Those of us who are experienced in cool damp/wet climates are giving you our best advice so that you will not be unprepared for inclement weather that could make you very uncomfortable. The outer layer is the most important and should be waterproof and breathable. A plastic slicker will be sweaty even if walking short distances, water-resistant will not cut it in a downpour, and cotton-terry takes a long time to dry and is not a great insulator. This type of wear is not very fashionable especially on a budget. We can help more if you would tell us when you are traveling and what you plan to do in port or on-land.

Eddie Bauer has some things on sale also.

HI...

I found a turtleneck in a thrift shop and a sort of "sweater" to wear at night on the ship

I bought a totes rain poncho just in case

AND...I FOUND A FLEECE AT WALMART, LOVELY PURPLE IT IS A PULLOVER WITH A LITTLE ZIPPER AND A HOOD AND I GOT IT :)

I sail to Alaska May 22

I am also worried about the weight of all this stuff , I of course am used to cruising with lots of luggage and this stuff looks heavy

THANKS

Great--apart from the shoes and jeans-- things are not that heavy. Glad you found a fleece. I frequently travel to England and manage to stay under the weight limit. The trick is to take things that can be mixed and matched and washed. I sail on May 23 so am getting prepared for all kinds of weather. My goal is to have enough layers to stay outside on Glacier Bay day and keep warm and dry. I actually will be in Naples, Florida at the beginning of May so am getting new swimsuits for that too. We always travel on a budget so I always shop where I can get the best deal. :) You will not do any better than the deals at Sierra Trading from RustysMom.

Yes the keycode expires at midnight and the $24.00 rain coat retails at $60.00. On my first Alaskan cruise I was not prepared for the cold wind and rain and abandoned my lightweight jacket and started wearing a waterproof parka with a hood from LL Bean and my gloves. Yes those PVC jackets do not breath and you are cold and clammy from the inside. I am going back again in late July and taking a mock turtleneck, a hooded fleece and my waterproof rain coat with a quilted lining and my unlined jacket that is also waterproof and does not take up much room. Both jackets are breathable and I am taking the rain pants that match the link to the Trabagon rain jacket. Some people are not familiar with Sierra Trading Post because their stores are in the western US. They are very generous in their return policy and have one of the quickest answering times in the buisness and you talk to real people. They have great deals because most of their items are closeouts.
