I thought the $11.00 gratuity could not come off this OBC.

You're not crazy. Princess does in fact, state that in their fine print.

However, in practice the OBC is debited every time a charge is assessed to your account, regardless of what it's for. So gratuities are routinely paid with the OBC, just as the others have stated.

Thats how it is, yet strangely I have had a letter from the purser telling me I could not use my keycard to purchase anything as I did not have a credit card registered - and there was $700 OBC sitting on the account.

Work that one out.

Your onboard account is a simple credit/debit system. If you have an OBC of any kind, your folio starts as a plus (credit.) Everything that's charged to your folio, whether it's the hotel service charge, a soda, a tour or a specialty restaurant, is then deducted from the credit until you reach a $0 balance. Then, you start accruing a balance to be charged to your card. On my recent Star cruise, I had about $45 left in my folio from my OBC at the end of the cruise. It was credited to my credit card.

I thought if you dont use up all your OBC, you would lose it, unless the OBC is from some sort of compensation from prior cruise.

Did I remember it wrong or Princess now changes its policy so any leftover OBC would be returned to the registered CC?

What do you mean by "cash out"?

Go to the casino cage and take that amount in cash. It will get charged to your account and you will pay 3%, but that's a small price to pay for free $$$. Either that, or out of the slots. Have someone teach you.

or go to the casino and set up an account, then take whatever amount from your on board account out for your casino account. You can cash out this account whenever you want if you dont lose it all in the casino lol

Yes, that is what is on the web site and (with the date changing) has always been on the website for this benefit.

However, the onboard accounting systems do not care what the source of OBC is and all charges or all types to your account come off the OBC until the OBC is all used up.

Just understand that the verbiage you are reading hasn't been changed in 13 years. See Bill above.
