Using cell phone in St Thomas

Can I use my cell phone in st thomas without ocurring international charges?

I was able to use my phone without any issues or additional charges...that was a few years ago.

it depends on your carrier/provider. call them up and ask them. Some allow it, some dont. Others force you into the international plan

I think it must be up to your service provider. I used mine (Sprint) in St. Thomas and had no charges. My mom used her's (Verizon) in St. Thomas and had $65 worth of charges. You may want to ask your carrier before you go if you plan on making calls. I even got on Facebook with mine.

You should be able to because it's a US territory therefore not a foreign country. I know my mom was able to a few years ago and that was using ATT

I used mine in 2010 and 2011 in St.Thomas and did not incur any additional charges( I have Sprint)

we went last may and were able to use ours in st thomas and in san juan with no charges. we have att.

No extra charges at all using my iPhone. Sent email from the top of the tramway.

As others have said it all depends on your carrier. It has nothing to do with St. Thomas being a US territory. Some carriers have agreements that allow you to treat St. Thomas as home, others it is considered roaming. If your carrier is Verizon then it is roaming. I am not sure about others but I know that Verizon is roaming.

 

Check with your carrier to be sure because the agreements change all the time, and what was true on one cruise might not be true the next time you are there.

I had no problems with TMobile or Verizon - I called Verizon before leaving and they did something to my account just for the month so that I could use the phone in Puerto Rico and St. Thomas - I don't recall a charge for it, but was told if I hadn't flagged my account, I would have incurred charges. TMobile on the other hand, had no fees -

I've used mine in St. Thomas without issue. Most carriers consider the U.S. Virgin Islands to be an extension of Puerto Rico (and thus the US). If you can use it in PR, you're fine in USVI (I have ATT).

I just called my carrier today(Sprint) and was told I could use it in St. Thomas and San Juan without any additional charges. :)
