? Walking tour in falmouth

We did the trolley last week from Freedom which was just under an hour in length. From what we saw we were glad we did not try to walk in the areas we passed through!

We too have done the trolley tour while on the Oasis. It is located on the far side of the square from where ships dock. It's not a ship excursion, or at least not for us. You walk up to buy tickets. Would probably be pretty quick to do it once docked. I would think it would fill up. It was $10 per person. It was well narrated, and we experienced a good overview of the town. It was a positive experience for us.

I would agree with above quote. Did talk to some on board who did walk around town, and they came back pretty quickly. They did not do the tour, just struck out on their own. If with a tour group, being more supervised might be different.

We did use the excursion which picks you up right where the guy on stilts is as you enter the port. Also, we had a police motorcycle escort. I did not see that the other trollies had that. We stopped at the station mentioned above for a two minute rest break before leaving the port area. No one availed themselves of that but probably should have as there were no rest rooms on our route.;)

We have been there twice. The first time we only looked around right at the pier, and we met 2 guys in costume behind one of the buildings. They demanded money. DH gave them $1, and we hightailed it to the ship. We heard negative reports from several

people on the trolley tour.

The second time we were there, we didn't even want to get off the ship.

I always get off the ship. I did the Chukka beak break, which was beautiful, but crowded. but the OP didn't want a water tour.

I would say this is a good port to either do a ship tour, or find a reputable guide from these boards. It really is a beautiful island. It has a bad reputation from 20 years ago.

Some parts of St. Thomas are pretty sketchy, but everyone raves about it.

Personally, I felt that we were in a RCCL compound when we got off the ship in Falmouth, the bars and the gates kept us protected from the locals. We took the trolley tour booked directly with the company and after returning (1 hr), I said to my family, I am very thankful for everything I have. When we past the local hospital, I said my prayers that we don't get sick on this island. It was really depressing outside the gates; however, inside the stores were okay no bargains but clean and the sales personnel were not pushy. As in life, it was an experience!

We did the trolley tour not through the ship and had a police escort as well.

We did the horse and buggy tour. We enjoyed seeing the area but I would not want to walk through it. The people along the way were very friendly and waved at us but was still glad to get back into the port area.

We were with another couple and did actually walk out of the port area. If it was my dh and me, I would not have done it. Pretty dern scary place.

I have to say the local Police were wonderful. A man came up to me begging for money, the police officer was there in a hurry, made the beggar leave.

Another officer came up to me and made sure I was comfortable in the area

We had an interesting experience at Falmouth off Oasis this past January. I had forgottento pack my hairspray and mousse. Wouldn't you know it, the spa was out of it. The first night we ate at Chops and it was windy in Central Park, by the time we got to Chops I think I looked like the bride of Frankenstein. If course there is no place to purchase those kinds of products at Labadee. The next port was Falmouth. DH wanted to try to find someplace to but these items in Falmouth. I guess he was tired of hearing me complain. I didn't think it was a good idea but we did go thru the gates. The first block wasn't bad but when I saw the next block accross the street I told DH, that really doesn't look safe. While we were discussing the advisability of going right back to the ship a man approached us, kind of Rasta looking. Turned out he was a cab driver. He asked us what we were looking for, told us where to find it and walked us to the beauty supply shop about a block away. He was very nice. He said, "no one will bother you. We want you to keep coming here. We need you to spend money here." My husband wanted to give him something, he wouldn't take it. He gave us his card and said the next time we were in Jamaica we should call him for a tour. I still wouldn't feel comfortable walking around there, but it was an experience.

Thanks for answering. It seems no one did the ship's narrated walking tour though. The write up says "historical". Been to Ocho Rios many times, tried all tours I might be interested, but never in Falmouth. Hoped maybe something different. Is the great house any different from the other "great houses" in Ocho Rios/Montego Bay?
