Rare Copper10-8 Posted May 11, 2012 #27 Share Posted May 11, 2012 Thanks Kiwi cruiser. Just didn't seem possible Australia didn't have any dry docks. Especially since Statendam was in drydock in DEC 2007 @ Forgacs Cairncross Dockyard in Brisbane, Queensland;)

Krazy Kruizers Posted May 11, 2012 #29 Share Posted May 11, 2012 Ummm yes there are Dry docks in Australia! There are at lest two / three that I know off that cruise ships use. Thanks for confirming that indeed there are dry docks in Australia. Knowing how many boats they have of their own -- I just couldn't concieve that they would have to haul boats to other places for dry docks. Krazy Kruizers Posted May 11, 2012 #30 Share Posted May 11, 2012 They would try to wait 7 months to fix it because each canceled cruise costs them million$ of dollar$ in revenue not to mention the nightmare of trying to place hundreds of workers on other ships. The crew stay on the ship -- unless they are scheduled for their vacation time. I have talked to a few crew who said that many days they worked without air conditioning. Besides doing deep cleaning in the cabins -- they are assigned other duties -- like helping to move furniture. Dining room are also assigned other duties. None of the crew get to sit around and do nothing.
