Loungers on Aft balcony cabins no longer allowed?

Recommended Posts

We too just had a D1 corner aft on the Explorer. I was surprised to see 2 loungchairs as well as 2 chairs and a table. Not much space for anything else, but it was wonderful to sit on those loungchairs. Booked the same cabin for a year from now so I hope this doesn't become a fleet policy. And, aft cabins do ROCK (in a good way, not a sea sick way). I had always thought that people who raved about them were trying to show off. They are really worth every penny.

On our cruise on the May 5 with the Serenade from Barcelona we had first no loungers on the balcony of our aft cabin (9258). Only 2 chairs and a table. After our stateroom Addendant imagined and I asked him, we got a half hour later 2 loungers. He said that this should be no problem.

The neighbor cabin (9256) had also no loungers and asked apparently not, because they had the entire trip about no loungers.

Jewel aft 8672 & 8170 in Feb, and all the cabins next to us and below us had 2 chairs , 2 loungers and a table. Some had 1 lounger and one of those chairs with the ottoman.

Could there have been a different rule for a TA? LOS Captain just had his own ideas?

To the poster who wondered about byo lounge chairs...the answer is YES, we did it on Oasis D1. We bought sand chairs at Walgreens in FLL, put a bag tag on them and they were delivered to our room. We kept them under the bed when we were not on the balcony. I didn't want to take the chance of leaving them out if we were not sitting in them due to both fire and blowing hazards. Nothing will get them to crack down on balcony "decor" faster than an accident or incident. So please be responsible and keep the possibilities open for everyone!

If I had an aft balcony and it didn't have loungers I would just take the cushions of of the couch and use them. I would use some towels to cover them first. If I didn't have a couch I would just use the bed spread covered with towels. Either way it would be comfortable.

Yes, vtsmike, that had crossed my mind too. I would be bound and determined to find a way to lay out comfortably on that balcony!

Yes, I had asked about this, and I definitely wouldn't leave them out if I wasn't out there. Good to hear of someone else that successfully did this!

Anyone on the Indy hafe a corner afte with loungers recently? I'm on Liberty in a few weeks and the loungers were one of the reasons I booked a corner aft. I am printing the info from the PP who had loungers on Freedom and will try to get them or at least a few more chairs.

We were on the Liberty for the following 5 night B2B after the TA, same rules applied.

But we had changed cabins on our B2B, to a D1 deck 10 corner aft 1700 and had loungers on that cabin? but the weather was not good enough to use them.:rolleyes:

Good luck!

I just called RCI and the agent I spoke to said they had never heard of a guest requesting lounge chairs on their balcony. We are sailing on the Oasis on June 9th and are in a JS in a hump cabin. Does anyone think I'll be able to request one through guest services?

There are so many lounge chairs available all over the ship, on any upper deck, it really shouldn't matter either way. Just enjoy the cruise.

Sitting on a lounger on your own balcony is x10 better than sitting on a lounger on any upper deck of the ship :D

This is why we, who have booked aft balconies, are trying to find out if they still allow them. Pax from Liberty cruises in the past few months are reporting that aft balconies no longer are allowed loungers.

Did you have loungers on your Oasis cruise? We had a JS hump cabin on Allure and did. Hope it was a great cruise.

We had Aft cabin 8412 on Liberty west med in July

No loungers allowed as it's a safety hazard we were told..... not even allowed a 3rd chair for my daughter so we could have breakfast together on the balcony, cabin steward said I could use the one at the vanity table as long as he didn't see me doing it !

I'm sorry, but I just don't buy the "safety" argument. Its' the standard excuse they always use when they don't want to provide something the customer wants. I'd be willing to bet that the restrictions on lounge chairs due "safety issues" don't apply to the mega-suites, regardless of their location! :rolleyes: We've always booked aft cabins for the extra real estate, but if you have no furniture -- what's the point? :confused:

Maybe I'm being overly cynical, but has it occurred to anyone else that guests who spend the day happily lounging on their balconies, simply are not:

-- gambling in the casino;

-- spending money in the shops;

-- utilizing the expensive spa services;

or, most importantly, -- drinking in the bars! :eek:

I was worried about this before our Navigator cruise this past February. There was no need to worry because we had two loungers on our corner aft balcony. If we did not, I was going to ask the cabin attendant. If he/she said no, I was planning a midnight trip to the pool deck to get one :D!!

On Liberty JS and above-- had loungers, some with towels out on them or even with a Clothes Line set up.:eek:

The side JS cabins looked like very little room to move on them, with 2 chairs and 2 loungers, when we saw walking by when the door was open....

Just got off the Freedom of the seas, Sept 30-Oct 7, 2012 Western Caribbean. We had corner aft balcony 7408 and happy to report the loungers were there when we arrived. What a fantastic balcony! Re-booked same stateroom, same cruise next year.
