lancerTXST Posted March 13, 2019 #26 Share Posted March 13, 2019 Related question: I have a large suitcase that is for certain too large to fit through a scanner, so we will check it with the porters for embarkation. If we decide when returning to do all self carry off the ship, does bag size matter? Basically, do bags have to go back through a scanner upon return to home port? Thanks in advance. Rare Essiesmom Posted March 13, 2019 #27 Share Posted March 13, 2019 Bags do not go through a scanner leaving the ship - and neither do you. You can certainly carry it off the ship, but you may find yourself having to carry it up or down the stairs, as getting an elevator may be very time consuming. hillbillycruisers Posted March 13, 2019 #28 Share Posted March 13, 2019 I always bring a backpack onboard, besides my carry on, and I use it to pack my CPAP and extension cord. There is also room for some clothes inside with the cpap. By the way, it is a camo backpack. We always do the FTTF, so no worries about lugging everything around...as our room is ready as soon as we board.

Have read where camo can be frowned upon ? It's camo. How would they see it to frown. :) :Lol Carry a backpack on every trip. It's my carry on for airlines. But why strap it to another bag if you have one? Put it on your back and pretty much forget about it. Hands free.

You may be surprised how much suitcase fits through the scanner. My large 28" spinner does. The two other dimensions are less than 24x16 and the longest side can be any length. Wearing it into some ports would be illegal. What are your Ports of Call? I have a camo backpack that I take on shore. I don't recall if I used it on any of these islands. Nerkbuck Posted March 14, 2019 #32 Share Posted March 14, 2019 Is it really worth the hassle to carry your own soda onboard, and then have to go back to your stateroom every time you want one???

We would take one with us when headed out to lunch, usually. Not much different than having to stop at a bar on the way, waiting, ordering, and paying for their soda. We also had them in the room if we wanted to lounge on the balcony, etc.

Also good for when you are with your child/children, and they are off on their own while you are enjoying adult time. Then you have a good reason to have the Check ins with your kids at your room. Check in, get your liquid fix head back out. But I do agree with others, depending on the ship, with the lines and getting served, sometimes it's just as quick or quicker just going back to your room, from my observation.
