Cutting the bands may cost CCL

Recommended Posts

Maybe I missed this as I have been reading a couple of threads here on CC re: the live music but had not posted and neglected to subscribe....

Is there a list anywhere of what music is on what ships and a schedule of any changes????

I know that on the 5/30 sailing of the Miracle the DJ was on the Lido Deck. I think there were 2 DJ's who shared time here as well as in the Disco at night. I spend most of my time on the Serenity Deck these days when I sail without my kids (which was the case on this recent cruise) so I can't say much BUT as a smoker I did wander over to the main Lido pool a couple of times a day to sit and have a cigarette and I did not really care for the DJ.

Music Unlimited was still on board as well as 2 soloists, Pianoman and small band music a couple of evenings. And there was a showband.

Never saw a list. Music unlimited is one of our two favorite cover bands on Carnival. Blood power being the other.

OK....I will keep my eye out. If I had the energy I would scour through threads and keep a list such as DiveTrash does with the Piano Bar entertainment ;)

I agree. Music Unlimited was very good. I have been fortunate to have them on a cruise before as well as Blood Power.

No thanks but notice the leakage of the loyalty program which was right on the money.

We were than told by Carnival that it was not really correct but funny thing though, IT WAS

Yes, not to mention the ice. Escargot, shrimp cocktail. All the changes and info end up on the internet first.

On Fantasy last month, we hated the music that they were playing at the disco, but loved the live music from cover band Music Boardwalk next door at the Cats lounge. I might not mind the disco if the music was better, but there's nothing like live music.

Again long on opinion and a little short on facts.

What facts do you want? You have given no facts whatsoever to support what you say. This has been well documented for the past couple years. Not sure what you want. If you are considering people from the social staff singing with people from the showband performing with them then you would be correct. They even sometimes come up with names like a group. That has been the trend as of late. We used to have the groups in the lounges packed with people. Been a couple years since I have seen it on a consistent basis. All we get is a guy or couple singing in the casino with people standing around listening to them blocking the path down the promenade. It seems like the few cover bands left are on the shorter sailings.

OK.

If it is so "well documented" can you post the links to the documents.

And Cruise Critic post don't count.

BTW my info came from members of the bands.

That's all I can speak to.

In your opinion.

Not everyone shares your view of it

You have to admit most rumors on the boards turn out to be bogus.

So you have nothing. I have found CC fairly reliable. Most all news starts here first. But this thread was presented as new news. I would go all the way back to 2008 th last time I seen a cover band. But I am convinced you are here to do nothing but argue.

Stu, this one is like the Sponge. Many changes that has happened in the last couple years was first reported here then denied by Heald and then confirmed by Carnival. Then followed by an apology from John.

As you seem to be.

I know what I've seen.

I know what I've heard from real musicians working for Carnival right now.

If you think I'm a lying that's OK.

I don't want to argue at all, just share what I've seen and heard.

I didn't care for the DJ on the Miracle either. There is nothing like a live band. Hope to get to see Blood Power one day. I'm seeing Music Unlimited again in August. But Music Boardwalk is my favorite. Divetrash does a great job with that piano bar list. Mary49

Could he be ATS? From what I have seen most of what has been reported on here has been correct.

The trolls who write to JH blog and fb do not count.

Which ships have the Ticket to Ride show? I know we saw it on the Miracle back in 2006 and the cover band had a part in the show as the Beatles at one point. Wondering if the ships that still have the cover bands are the ones with that show. I do know that on my Pride sailings in 2009 and 2010 and on the Liberty in January they were gone. I will have to go find my Fun Times from the Valor in 2011, but don't remember there being a cover band there and the show band was down to four members.

How are you feeling these days? We have seen it on at least 5 ships but sorry do not remember which.

So, I love these bands... and hate to think that they would be cutting them from the entertainment. More passenger shows, less entertainment... are you kidding me?

Does anyone know if these Asian bands, Music Society, Blood Power, and all the other "Music" bands perform on other cruiselines? If so, which lines?

I have talked to a Music member band and he told me that he thinks they have two more years to go. If this happens, they would try for the other cruiselines. But I hope not. If this happens, I would follow them where ever they go. I agree with you. I'd rather have less passenger shows and keep the Asian Bands. Mary49

Thanks for the link.

I totally agree....I like the live band....and the Piano Bar thread is fantastic!! I have been reading it since the original started!! Very hard to do a list like that!

I don't know about your theory but....Ticket to Ride is still on the Miracle as of the 5/30 Sailing. It was held on the first Cruise Elegant night which was the first Sea Day. And Music Unlimited still plays on the Miracle as well. SO at least for now you have a match on that ship!

Not too bad... been a much longer recovery than I'd expected or hoped for. But am slowly getting back to normal.

I remember really enjoying that show and the cover band being part of it. DH and I laughed ourselves silly at the Asian Beatles. We've been lucky enough to sail with Music Boardwalk and Music Unlimited - both great bands. There was a third I remember from 2007 that wasn't so great, but they still drew a crowd each night.

First time we saw Music Unlimited thought they did a great job with Beatles stuff and could hardly tell they were Oriental. Talked to one of the guys and he had a heavy accent.

Asked him about it and they train their voices to lose the accent in singing.

BTW saw a pretty good Beatles cover band this past Sat at the lake at a winery.
