Cutting the bands may cost CCL

Recommended Posts

So, I love these bands... and hate to think that they would be cutting them from the entertainment. More passenger shows, less entertainment... are you kidding me?

Does anyone know if these Asian bands, Music Society, Blood Power, and all the other "Music" bands perform on other cruiselines? If so, which lines?

One of the members of music unlimited (think it was the keyboard player) is the booking agent for all or many of the Phillipino bands.

Smart bunch of people who are willing to spend a lot of time away from home and sure hope that if they separate from Carnival another cruise line would want them.

Why would they leave Carnival?

Because a few people on Cruise Critic started another unfounded rumor.

I have not seen one of the good Phillipino bands in several cruises. All I have seen is the normal lounge lizards singing duets. And they are always in the middle of the promenade right in way. The Phillipino bands use to always pack the aft lounges.

If you dislike the thoughts and info posted here why are you still here?

In any case it does appear that Carnival will employ less of the cover bands and if correct would think they would go to another cruise line.

Not a rumor just a thought.

To me I never even though of it as a rumor. It's jus the way it is. I felt like the bands were not as popular on some routes as others and they cuts them back. Been a while since I have seen one and I am positive there was no cover band on the Pride. Also the reduction of the show bands sucks bad

Since we have no idea who the entertainers on a ship would be except for piano bar impractical to choose ship for that.

We shall see how these options work out on our upcoming cruise but if not happy we will be voting with our feet for our future cruises.

We have the same feeling. I am waiting to see how it goes on our next cruise. We have our 5th Carnival cruise in two weeks to Celebrate our 30th Anniversary. We have used the four and five day cruises to celebrate significant events. For longer cruises we have used other lines because they had more of what we wanted or got a better deal that Carnival offered.

Carnival use to offer the best shows in cruising. But I have noticed, just like the food it has changed and I dont think for the good. But, we will see. We will have a good time anyway it goes.

Who are all these people who say, to perfectly reasonably comments things like, "Bye, enjoy the other lines" or "Drop it already" or "just GO already!"? How can these people be rude. I gather that one sat too long sitting on a porter, and another is a wench, but come on people, folks can have opinions without being rude.

I appreciate your comment. I have made many of the same type. But some people, not only here but in other aspects of society, think it is more important to cut people down. They think sarcasim is more effective that plainly stating their own opinion.

Just look at the politicians and we know where it comes from. Look at JH's blogs to see how anoying he can be to people who critize him or Carnival. Why shouldn't we expect it. That would be a change we could all believe in.

I know nothinnnnnnnnnnnnng!

This thread has temporarily been captured by Aliens.

But our Sargeant_Schlutz has a lot of opinion. Quite different that Banner's character. Sargeant Schultz no offense intented. I appreciate some of your opinions, but this was too good to pass up.

I had a friend in college who was about the same size and did a wonderful Sargeant Schultz impersonation. We were both viet vets and at vet club meetings keep things very entertaining.

Now back to the original complaining.

Where are the facts??????????????

I have as much right to express my opinion as you do.

If you don't like my opinions don't read my post.

There are maybe 20 or so high volume posters who see doom and gloom around every corner.

Carnival can do nothing right and everything is wrong.

Just because I don't usually buy into that I should leave??????????

IMHO there are a few people out here that should consider cruising a little more and posting a little less.

They might have a more balanced outlook.

We took a trip a 7 day trip on Princess in 2009 along the Mexican Rivera. It was cheaper that Carnival. They were already using a dj type set-up by the main pool. It was ran by a CD departmaent member. They switched off. I am sure that saved some money on the band.

They said something once and a while, but were playing tapes not spinning records. It was so much different than that which we were use to. We did miss the live musicians, but maybe even a real dj would have been better.

  • 2 months later...

Just came back from the Miracle and saw Music Unlimited. They willl be there until January. What a great band. I'm hoping to see them one last time maybe the end of February before they go to Hawaii with the Miracle. Mary49

You are the minority on this. A Lido band wouldn't prevent me from cruising Carnival BUT it adds to the atmosphere. It would be on the list of negatives that i could possibly use as a reason to go on another line yes, but the list would have to contain other negatives with Carnival.. From what I am hearing, I won't like the new "DJ's" playing hip hop crap music all over the ship. We shall see in a few weeks.

I'll say it yet again - for the life of me, I cannot comprehend why people are complaining about getting rid of BAD music!

Seriously, if the musicians had real talent, they wouldn't be playing on cruise ships.

I simply cannot listen to off-key singers. The pool bands were one of the reasons I avoid the main pool area.

There's still plenty to do on the ship in the evening.

And just like with all the complaints first about the menu change, now about the loyalty program and music - if it is so important to you, then just GO already! I'm sure the grass is greener on other lines. You don't need a bunch of anonymous message board posters to validate your decision. Stop complaining and take your vacation dollars elsewhere!

Mary49, I also like the bands. Just came back from Fantasy and had a great time listening to Music Boardwalk. i have enjoyed them since 2004. I would not like to cruise and not have them as part of the total package. Pink

The new mantra at Carnival is to cut expenses to the bone and find every new revenue source possible. The changes will continue at full force for sometime to come. I look forward to the day when changes come that are detrimental to the wants and needs of the cheerleaders. Their reactions will be priceless.

They are the people who are love Carnival blindly as if they were their family. They react as if someone made a joke about their mother. They're desperate to be a part of something, all about the need to feel connected. Whatever works I guess.

And sadly, I have to say I was on of those that felt like family, until Carnival showed us what our loyalty meant to them.

I see so many of these threads and so many on the fence. Don't worry all, I am sure we will move on. The next decade of Carnivals cruisers will not be the "have been's" but the "Never knew".

Let me know in ten years how you feel. Until then, just be respectful and allow those that have known better to vent.

First time we saw Music Unlimited thought they did a great job with Beatles stuff and could hardly tell they were Oriental. Talked to one of the guys and he had a heavy accent.

Asked him about it and they train their voices to lose the accent in singing.

BTW saw a pretty good Beatles cover band this past Sat at the lake at a winery.

LOL golfadj! Even the beatles trained to lose the accent for singing.

That must have been the testing ground for Carnival. Princess is owned by them.

Not true. There is actually worse noise. We used to like hearing Caribbean music when we cruised the caribbean. Now they have the canned pop music blaring first thing in the morning around the pools. It was so loud and annoying. Alteast the live band were live and would interact some. and they were defiantely not as loud

I liked the Caribbean music especially when they had four people in the bands but that has been gone for some time now when a ship is up graded to the 2.0 program they(Caribbean bands)maybe gone. I will be on the Glory 3/17/2013 then I'll see what's going on with the entertainment.

I probably missed the memo - was there an annoucement that Carnival ships would not have any bands?

One post said some ships still had bands, does the Dream?

TIA

Donna

I sailed the Dream one month ago and the only "live" music they had was an Asian duo very good that played 70's 8-'s music for about 2 hours a day in the atrium early afternoon/evening. The music by the pool is a video of Maroon 5 playing for the inaugural Breeze ship and one video of Bob Marley. I only saw the DJ out there a few times and never any music played from him due to pool side games..hairy chest contest etc. NO evening music or live bands anywhere. We were really disappointed!!

If more people complain about the lack of live bands the higher management will read the CC posts and maybe get the hint. I really do believe that good live entertainment is a plus for any cruise line and if CCL management sees a drop in bookings because of the lack of live bands it will change trust me, $$$ is the bottom line.
