I've flown on Etihad Airways several times and have found their service to be very good. I travel cattle.

Virgin Australia I have only flown domestically in Australia and have had no problems.

I have a colleague who flew Virgin Australia longhaul (LAX-SYD) and said they were fine - no big difference from any other airline in economy class. I've flown them domestically and they were just fine.

Same colleague has flown Etihad (he's Middle Eastern so travels back to that area frequently and has tried almost all the airlines in the region), and says they're pretty good in economy class. Slightly better than you would expect from, say, a European or North American carrier.

Has anyone any experience of using this/these airlines or thoughts about them please. We´re looking at flight to Sydney

Airberlin is fine; competent crews and well maintained aircraft, but it is still a metal tube in which you sit for hours. No way is long haul flying something to be savoured. Try and break your journey if possible.
