Group travel -- communication on ship?

We'll be cruising on the Glory in a few weeks with a group of 10 (family and friends, including two children). Given that we're planning on turning our cell phones off upon boarding the ship, what is the best way to communicate with the others in our group? Room phones (are you able to leave messages?) Notes on the doors? Anyone have any tips to share?

Yep, both work. Phones in your cabin and out on decks, you can call cabins and leave messages. Put messages on the door (and hope some kids dont steal them).

 

Some bring walkie talkies, but for a large group this probably would not work

Don't know if all ships have it, but you can use the "Funville" thingy for free at the internet stations to communicate with others on board.

If you have, or invest in GOOD CB radios or walkie talkies (the long range models), they come in handy. Some of the channels become overused---but we've used them for communication on the ship and at port.

I travel with a large group of people frequently.

 

There are usually several smokers in the group, but even if there weren't we usually "take ownership" of a table or two on the Lido deck and kind of use it as our base.

 

For the most part 3 or 4 people are found in that location at any time during the day.

 

In the evening you can usually find a large number of our group sitting opposite the casino bar along the Promenade.

 

Edit to Add: Before anyone flames me........we're not "reserving" those tables, they are just in proximity to each other and if there are people from our group there we will sometimes drag up chairs if they are available if not, we don't. As the group dwindles throughout the day, we continuously consolodate to one table so we're not THOGing.

The "Currently Onboard" forum on the Carnival User's Group site? That doesn't work well for communication with others on board - its generally used to keep in contact with those back home.....

this is what we did./

 

We picked the section of the buffet area and told everyone that if dining this is the area to sit- that way if someone else is dining around the same time we know where to look.

It worked out great all week

 

while eating dinner we go over the nights plans so we can see who will be where at what time.

We sailed as 4 couples on the Oasis 2 years ago and wish we'd thought of the post it note on the door thing. We called rooms (there were phones everywhere) and on certain days scheduled times to meet - for meals, mostly, but also when we did ports together.
