This is from the home ports East coast departures board.http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1662576 .you could search that board for lots of info. I think a taxi is easy. They are right at the curb, no looking for the car service.

Take the shuttle (train/tram) to the LIRR - Jamaica Station and then take a LIRR train into Penn Station. Once you arrive, go upstairs to the street and take a cab uptown to the pier.

I really think this is a terrible idea for someone who hasn't been to NYC before and is hauling around a load of luggage!

Think about it and assume you have never been to the city.

1. Collect you luggage and find the Air Train Station

2. Board the first train and then change trains to reach the Jamaica Station

3. Go to the LIRR and try to figure how to buy tickets and get on the right train.

4. Get off at Penn Station and exit into a mass of humanity.

5. Find a cab and pray that it is not raining

*All this while hauling around luggage.

No, it is a fixed fare to Manhattan in a cab and the price is per ride not person. For a first time visitor with luggage, this is the simplest and best way to go!

I was wondering what the best way to get from JFK airport to the cruise port is?Taxi, Limo, cruise transfers? Never been to NYC before so looking for suggestions! :)

you can take LIRR... or just pay for the cab... then you're not hauling luggage all over the place, and the trains can be a pain (we take the train to NY for our cruises, and i regret it every single time). if you take a cab, you also get a better look at the city.

Several years ago, I took a shuttle van. Only cost $17 plus a $5 tip. One must ride around the different terminals as the van gets loaded, but didn't take long at all.

Went to the surface travel desk at the terminal. Very nice man behind the counter told me what phone to pickup and tell them to come and get me. Only took about 20 minutes. Piece of cake.

Most folks travel with at least one other person so there wouldn't be a great difference between the shuttle or a cab. Years ago I took a cab and it worked fine. Only problen was debarkation day when 3 ship docked at once. Cabs were tough that say.

Agreed. Either taxi or arrange for a sedan.
