Johnsonclan Posted July 4, 2012 #1 Share Posted July 4, 2012 We will be taking to Hawaii arriving at our first port on October 1st and would like to take a 'resort dive'. We have done this twice in St. Thomas and loved it.:) (I know, just go get PADI certified, right? We probably should but...) We would like to dive at least once during this cruise. We are not big on the cruise line excursion 'cattle calls'. Rather preferring the small boat or shore dive with a more intimate setting and limited number of folks joining us. We will likely be renting a car at each island as well. We will be visiting Hilo, Honolulu, Nawiliwili (Kauai) and Lahaina (Maui) Any advice as to specific island, location, dive shops, dive boat operators, beach to dive from, etc would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your input...
Middleager Posted July 5, 2012 #2 Share Posted July 5, 2012 Kona will have the best diving of all the islands. You can go to scubaboard to read about the dives, and the dive ops there. Most shops in Kona are reputable.

Most shops in Kona are reputable. Also trips from Lahaina across the channel to dive off the coast of Lania is very nice. It was a long time since we've done it so we don't have current info, but it was spectacular. We dove in lava caves called the Cathedrals. This isn't our picture, but it is what it was like. You may need to be certified for this dive. Aloha!

Budget Queen Posted July 9, 2012 #5 Share Posted July 9, 2012 I don't dive, but am an avid snorkeler who have done so on all of your listed isilands. Not sure what "resort" means, but IF you have a long day or overnight in Maui, there are many shore access areas, and boat tours to consider. CRUZBUDS Posted July 10, 2012 #6 Share Posted July 10, 2012 A resort course allows you to dive with supervision without being certified
Middleager Posted July 10, 2012 #7 Share Posted July 10, 2012 They aren't going to Kona. :( Ha, didn't notice that. When they said cruise, I thought the Hawaiian cruises usually include going to Kona. Ah, they'll miss out on the best diving locations in Hawaii. Hawaiidan Posted July 11, 2012 #8 Share Posted July 11, 2012 is also the best snorkeling. Forget Honolulu, Maui and Kauia, to much stuff in the water, and older dead corals for the moost part
