ConnieInNewJersey Posted August 3, 2012 #1 Share Posted August 3, 2012 Cannes, Nice and Monte Carlo - which are tender ports? Is a tender a big consideration in selecting a cruise with a stop there?
JohninDC Posted August 3, 2012 #2 Share Posted August 3, 2012 Cannes and Monte Carlo are tender ports for sure, and I suspect the same for Nice. Good luck! :)
Rare Hlitner Posted August 3, 2012 #3 Share Posted August 3, 2012 Cannes is always a tender port. Monte Carlo does now have a cruise dock and can easily handle one ship. If several ships are in Monte Carlo on the same day some of the ships will tender. As to Nice, it is not often used by the mass market cruise ships. There is a docking facility but it cannot handle a very large ship and its almost unheard of for a cruise line to tender into Nice. Instead they will usually go a few miles east to the port of Villefranche where they must tender. Hank
CruiserBruce Posted August 3, 2012 #4 Share Posted August 3, 2012 Monte Carlo can only dock one ship. So if there is more, somebody has to tender.
Paul&Kathy Posted August 3, 2012 #5 Share Posted August 3, 2012 We docked in Nice on the Norwegian Gem a few years ago, it was about a mile or so to walk into town, much better than Villefranche.

We docked in Nice about twenty-five years ago on the Regent Spirit! But that was then...and this is now. It is a very rare ship that ever docks in Nice and it would need to be pretty small. I cannot even find a small cruise ship that docks in Nice these days. Hank
KirkNC Posted August 3, 2012 #7 Share Posted August 3, 2012 Tenders are a hassle. How much of a hassle depends on the port and the size of the ship. In Santorini it took us over 1 hour wait to get on a tender. Now we are always there when the first tender goes and we are usually on it. Tenders can significantly restrict ingress and egress. So true. Most cruise lines give priority to their own tours and also give special tender priority to very frequent cruisers. But even this can be a hassle as it was on a recent cruise we took on HA. They give priority tendering to 4 Star Mariners Club cruisers (200+ days of HA cruises) but on our cruise there were about 400 4 Stars out of 550 passengers (Prinsendam). So when nearly the entire ship gets priority nobody really gets priority :(. Hank
MawganTr Posted August 4, 2012 #9 Share Posted August 4, 2012 Cunard were very organised last week (Cannes & Gibraltar) number tickets to allow us to go in order. No queue for Cannes but we did wait about half an hour at Gib. Not a problem as we were sat in the cafe area.
