ep1080 Posted August 8, 2012 #1 Share Posted August 8, 2012 Does anyone know of a cheaper way other than 2 taxis, and not the Airport express bus ( we have luggage, handled, but still probably hard to move around in hot weather ) We also might go to South Beach before we go to cruise terminal, so probably need transportation 2 times, l time from MIA airport to South beach, second time from South Beach to Miami cruise terminal Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated. DanJ Posted August 8, 2012 #2 Share Posted August 8, 2012 Cheaper than 2 taxis? Not likely. But you can try Supershuttle, which will at least get you all in one van. Unless you have kids in the group, I doubt 2 taxis would hold everyone, or at least not very comfortably. If you talk to the Supershuttle dispatcher at ground transportation outside baggage claim, he can arrange a van to take you to SoBe. From there to the ship, you'll probably need taxis. What are you going to do with luggage though?
BlueHerons Posted August 8, 2012 #3 Share Posted August 8, 2012 Two cabs and unless your flight arrives at seven am, you will not have time for South Beach.
Rare Keith1010 Posted August 8, 2012 #4 Share Posted August 8, 2012 If you want cheaper go with two taxis. It will be lots less expensive than a private vehicle. Keith
ep1080 Posted August 8, 2012 Author #5 Share Posted August 8, 2012 thanks for all the input., We will go in 2 taxis then. If I am not mistaken , fare from MIA airport to south Beach is flat rate $32 and to cruise terminal $24 , am I correct, or did I get the 2 rates reversed? I presume when we leave, taxi fare from cruise terminal to MIA is the same $24 Our flight arrives at MIA at 5 or 5:30 am, we were thinking of hanging around the airport till about 8 am, then go to South Beach. That early in the morning, is anything open at all in South Beach. What would you do in South Beach early in the morning like this ? By the way, how long would it take to go from MIA to S. Beach early in the morning on Saturday. What would be the taxi fare from S. Beach to cruise terminal and how much time should I give myself for this trip from s. beach to cruise terminal . I presume it is really hot in Miami right now, am I correct ? I would appreciate any input you can give me

Your flight could be delayed or cancelled, but I'll now stick to your question. If you do not have any checked luggage then I would stay inside the terminal area and have breakfast or walk around. If you have claimed luggage then after you get the luggage the challenge would be what to do since you would now be outside the terminal area. If your plan is South Beach then you could just take the taxis over there and have breakfast. Other option would be area airport hotel and then over to South Beach. If you don't want to eat then when you plan to arrive to South Beach you could just go to an area Hotel or to one of several restaurants to have breakfast there and then walk around and take in the sites. Later on in the morning stores and the like would be open. Airport to South Beach is about 15 to 25minutes. South Beach over to the Port of Miami is about 15 to 20 minutes. South Beach itself can take about 10 minutes or more to get around depending on where you are dropped off or get on from. Keith

You are correct - don't forget to tip! ;) I presume when we leave, taxi fare from cruise terminal to MIA is the same $24 Our flight arrives at MIA at 5 or 5:30 am, we were thinking of hanging around the airport till about 8 am, then go to South Beach. Were you going to drag your luggage around SB with you? That early in the morning, is anything open at all in South Beach. What would you do in South Beach early in the morning like this ? I would appreciate any input you can give me There is luggage storage available inside the MIA airport -- stash your bags and then use the airport flyer bus to get to SB for $2.35 per person. Grab breakfast, walk around, people watch, and when you are ready bus back to MIA (another $2.35 each) and then grab two cabs to POM. http://www.miamidade.gov/transit/library/airport_flyer_brochure.pdf Your other alternative is to take the free hotel shuttle to the nearby Hilton - tip them to watch your bags while you enjoy breakfast (good, but not cheap :() and a few mimosas. :D About 9:30 or so you can grab two cabs from the hotel to POM. Good luck! :)
miamiyogi Posted August 9, 2012 #8 Share Posted August 9, 2012 Let the taxi starter look at your group. If you are lucky, there will be an Expedition or Sienna Taxi that can seat 7 in the queue. If there isn't one, he'll call over American Shuttle.

With 7 it will be tight but might be doable. :)
miamiyogi Posted August 9, 2012 #10 Share Posted August 9, 2012 There's a small number of 7-8 passenger SUVs in Miami's taxi fleet. It will be luck of the draw if one is at the airport. A shuttle will be $80 and two cabs will be $64+tip. If you win lotto and there is an SUV taxi, it'll be $32+ tip for all of you: use the savings to call me and buy me a beer :D
green eyed lady Posted August 9, 2012 #11 Share Posted August 9, 2012 Call Francisco at (305) 878-6882...he owns FG Car Services. We used him last week. Quick story...on Fri nite I decided to get prices on private car services thinking that the 6 of us and all our luggage would have to go in 2 taxis and this would be easier and less stressful. I was already totally stressed out about flying in the day of the cruise  I Found FG on google at like 8:30 the night before our cruise. Francisco picked us up at the airport, stopped at Publix so we could get wine and water, and drove us to the port. I booked him for the return trip also. He charged $120 plus tip r/t. So $60 each way with a stop at the store was cheaper than 2 cabs would have been. AND...he didn't even take my cc # to book...and after he dropped us at the port he didn't take any money...he just said I could pay him after the cruise! We were picked up in a big van that had plenty of room for 6 adults and a ton of luggage. Awesome service!!! :D I would use him again without hesitation. :)
