I will only tip the person that pours my water at diner and puts food on the table in front of me....wah wah wah..there is now way any of my tips will go to the other staff that makes sure the ship remains afloat with air conditioning, running water, waste disposal and all the other amenities I take for granted..wah wah wah

I don't mind the auto-tips. In my opinion it's the best way to go.

I do see, however, that there are other very valid opinions. The problem on this board is that everyone who has an opinion believes 100% that there's is the only correct opinion and nobody should even HAVE a differing opinion.

I still believe that the main reason for not tipping is cheapness. The other main reason is probably that the non-tippers spent too much on drinking, on shore excursions, pictures, and in the casino etc. Then they get a big "oops" when the final bill comes in. We always pre-pay the gratuities and leave extra for the cabin and wait staffs, and for the bartenders. They work hard and very long hours - often way more than 12 or 14 a day. They often have rough days, and its not important to me that they be constantly smiling, exuberant etc.

I don't think so. I think the non-tippers are the same tightwads who never spend an extra penny, be it on sodas, alcohol, or shore excursions. We pre-pay our tips and our shore excursions, to lessen the final impact of the S&S bill. ;)

The funny part is after saying that, he presented no statistics.

A tiny bit of research would shed some light on this:

WOW, I love that site (lmgtfy.com), never saw it before.

And I believe the OP, and all of his iterations, is just doing this, and continuing it, to stir people up.

Bingo!;) This iteration is going back to sleep for now. Wake me up when things get slow on the forum again and we need to spice it up with a discussion on tipping:D

Glad you liked it. LMGTFY and linking to authority sites is

the bets way to quash people who have no clue what they

are talking about.

A high post count does not an expert make.

has someone said they don't tip, that is cheap and wrong, i thought this thread was about the way we tip:confused::cool:

When you only tip those you come into direct contact with,

you are stiffing a bunch of deserving workers who work

behind the scenes. $2.00 per day from the auto-tip is distributed to kitchen, entertainment, guest services and other hotel staff members.

Pot (H82seaUgo) meet kettle (Amy Giard)...

I stand by my previous post... Whether you have the stats or 100 websites to back up your "claims" or not... Whether you use that information to avoid tipping or to justify it... Makes no difference...

The only job whose salary deserves this level of scrutiny is politician... Anything else is just tacky...

1. I worked on a cruise ship so I think I am justified talking here.

2. Who are you to say what should be discussed here? I may not like what you say and I will debate you all day, but I will also fight for your right to speak your mind. Isn't that what these boards are for?

BTW, I didn't start the post... but when someone says bartenders make $60 in tips

alone, I can't let such an obvious misrepresentation sit there.

And you've talked about tipping (who gets what, splits, etc) in past posts so get off your high horse.

In the past, I have participated in tipping threads with vigor... But in recent years my opinion has changed to feeling that the discussion of people's pay when used to justify or defend your personal views on whether to tip or not is just tacky...

You are more than welcome to proudly boast about your experience, debate the pay rate of people down to the number of drinks they serve, scour the Internet to come up with estimates of someone's pay to defend your claims to a known troll on these boards...

You can be offended that I feel your contribution is just as devoid of class as your targets... That's your perogative...

But give it some serious thought... Isn't there just a small sense of "wow, it just seems petty to be scrutinizing the pay rate of a stranger to this degree"?

And then think about this: are there any other jobs that we put this level of subjective thought into? Doesn't it seem a bit demoralizing?

Only people who have or currently do work for tips can possibly get what I'm saying here... Because only people who work for tips understand that no matter what you do, how well you serve... Ultimately, your payment is more dependent on some strangers personal opinion and character...

In professional circles, it's considered tacky to discuss your monetary worth and annual salary... Heck, most companies discourage you from divulging what you make to your co-workers...

Why is the standard of social decency any different in this case?

1. I worked on a cruise ship so I think I am justified talking here.

Okay... I'm not questioning your credentials, just your sense of social decency.

2. Who are you to say what should be discussed here? I may not like what you say and I will debate you all day, but I will also fight for your right to speak your mind. Isn't that what these boards are for?

I'm not "saying" what should be discussed here, only offering my view that it is tacky to be scrutinizing someone's pay down to dollars and cents... A view which is rarely expressed here, as opposed to yours which has been expressed ad nauseum to the 100th degree... Heck, I was you a few years ago and in previous posts... Then I changed... People do that... usually because they are exposed to a perspective they hadn't considered before...

BTW, I didn't start the post... but when someone says bartenders make $60 in tips

I didn't indicate that I thought you started this thread?? Not sure where you got that from but my guess is that it's just defensiveness... I get it... Your offended that a complete stranger thinks you are tacky... that's okay... it happens... Welcome to the internet.

And you've talked about tipping (who gets what, splits, etc) in past posts so get off your high horse.

And we close with a typical personal insult and a, "but mom, Johnny did it first response"...

Nice and classy.

Oh where to start with this one.

RE: "Social Decency"

We are not asking anyone how much they make or even discussing a single person. We are discussing a position in afroum set up for such discussions.

RE: Insulting

You did the pot calling the kettle black thing.. why attack me personally unless you want to get into it and get attention.

RE: Tacky

There are opinions and there are facts. You have the right to think I'm tacky say it here. It's not a fact... I am just trying to set a few things straight here.

RE: You were me a few year ago

I get it.. I am not cultured yet.. give me a few years and I will be as classy as you. Now THAT'S TACKY.

If you are what I have to look forward to in a few years, let's hope the Mayans were correct.
