rok233 Posted August 16, 2012 #1 Share Posted August 16, 2012 I'm going on the Monarch and was wondering what you get extra with the superior oceanview over the regular oceanview and do you think it's worth an extra $140 per cabin ($70 each)? Scotty G Posted August 16, 2012 #2 Share Posted August 16, 2012 I'm going on the Monarch and was wondering what you get extra with the superior oceanview over the regular oceanview and do you think it's worth an extra $140 per cabin ($70 each)? You get a cabin that is just slightly smaller than the JS on Monarch. Of course there is no balcony. SOV's are our cabin of choice on Monarch.:D
BlueSkySailing Posted August 16, 2012 #3 Share Posted August 16, 2012 Yes- I would. But that's me. That extra space is really nice. You are on deck 9 so it's real easy to get to the pool deck. Either way Happy Cruising!

Loyal2RCCL Posted August 16, 2012 #5 Share Posted August 16, 2012 You also get a small love seat and coffee table so you don't have to always sit on your bed. The SO cabins are a lot more spacious, and are also my cabin of choice on MN and MJ.
aloesch Posted August 17, 2012 #6 Share Posted August 17, 2012 I upgraded this week for my sailing tomorrow, from a deck 6 o v to the deck 9 SOV. I'll be sure and take lots of good room pics to share when i return Monday night :-)
RoyalDiamond Posted August 17, 2012 #7 Share Posted August 17, 2012 I would do it. The regular oceanview rooms on Majesty and Monarch are tiny. The SOV rooms give you more space. However, a lot of the views are somewhat blocked by the lifeboats outside the windows on deck 9. But for me, it's worth it. With some careful planning, you can get a room between the lifeboats, so your view isn't blocked!
whyrlygig Posted August 17, 2012 #8 Share Posted August 17, 2012 Absolutely worth the extra space! Also, it is nice to be able to walk up one floor to the pool deck and Windjammer.

Yes - if there are cabins available and it fits in your budget. The standard cabins are VERY TINY and that slight difference in Sq Ft. seems to make a big difference for this ship. Our price point to upgrade from any standard OV cabin on the Monarch (we usually get deck 8 if we can’t get deck 9) is about $75 pp. If you can’t upgrade, it is TIGHT but doable. The cruise is so fast paced, you are likely not in the cabin much. God luck in your decision. M
