Purchasing alcohol in Istanbul and wine policy

I understand that Oceania have no problem with guests bringing alcohol on board. Does this also apply to spirits?

We are sailing from Istanbul and wondered whether decent French, Italian or New world wines are available at the airport on arrival or indeed if there are dedicated wine stores in the city.

No problem for use in your cabin Beer also included

you can take a bottle of wine to the dining venues where you will pay the corkage fee not sure if it is $20 or $25 now

Wine is easily purchased in Istanbul it's just expensive. There is an arrivals duty free store with a good selection, and you can also bring your own with you. The customs limit is either two or three bottles per person IIRC.

If you're flying from Heathrow there's also a good deal in duty free...£24 for 2 litres of spirits from a good selection, in our case Bombay Sapphire. No problems in taking either into Turkey or on board when we sailed from Istanbul last September.

Just remember you can only carry alcohol on the last leg of your flight if it is in a cabin bag and not checked. So if you buy in Heathrow you must be on a non stop flight to Istanbul.

Yes you can......

If you are transferring at LHR you follow the purple "Flight Connections" signs & then once you have passed the transfer security check you are in the main departure area for your terminal with passengers orignating at Heathrow..all the shops are here & there are no further security cheks between here &'your gate.

I will be staying in London, not traveling further.

You can buy it at the airport where you depart unless you have a connection before landing at LHR or just look for a shop in London

ODDBINS had some good prices last time were were in London

Enjoy the trip

On the supermarket side of things, both Waitrose & The Cooperative are known for having a varied & non generic selection of wines. Waitrose has a good selection of English wines which can be hard to find elsewhere....worth trying are English sparkling wines, better than many champagnes, the South Downs area, between London & the south coast is acknowledged to be perfect for producing fizz.

There is wine at grocery and convenience stores all over Istanbul, though I don't recall seeing any wine or liquor stores. As I recall, it was also available at a little shop on the pier, but the wine was awful. We brought wine aboard at many stops, and ship personnel at the entry never said anything. We enjoy having wine in our room, and enjoying a glass on our balcony in the evening...

When you come out of Customs at the port or go in, there are several markets and huge deli places that offer it.

Also walk a few blocks to the roundabout, at the end of the bridge, and under it are sever al shops too.

Istanbul is one giant store... The merchants by the pier pander to the visitors...

The same can be said for every port you will visit... they cater to tourists.

You will have no problem

With Turkey being a Muslim country you might find it hard to find a place that sells alcohol of any kind.

We did not find this to be true -- any grocery store sold alcohol. We bought quite a few bottles of Turkish whites in Istabul and Kudadasi -- yum. Also do try the local beer -- Efes. again yum!
