twroths Posted August 21, 2012 #1 Share Posted August 21, 2012 We will be on the QM2 WB TA over Thanksgiving. Does Cunard do anything for American Thanksgiving. We will be giving thanks by not being with family :) Thanks, - Tom

hansol1966 Posted August 21, 2012 #3 Share Posted August 21, 2012 We travelled a few years ago on the QM2 Westbound to New York and there was a thanksgiving dinner offered along with other options, very nice to. The ships head chef is well aware of coming events and caters accordingly. Im English and would love to understand the importance of Thanksgiving as it is a major event in America (Obama and the turkey etc) any insight would be most welcome...Thankyou. bluemarble Posted August 21, 2012 #5 Share Posted August 21, 2012 To address the specific Thanksgiving question concerning "Obama and the turkey", this additional wikipedia article may be helpful. It's mentioned in the external links section of the main Thanksgiving wikipedia article. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Thanksgiving_Turkey_Presentation Regards, John. keithm Posted August 22, 2012 #6 Share Posted August 22, 2012 We will be on the QM2 WB TA over Thanksgiving. Does Cunard do anything for American Thanksgiving. We will be giving thanks by not being with family :) Thanks, - Tom We've been on Cunard a few times at thanksgiving. They do offer a "traditional" American turkey dinner. It's sliced turkey & gravey & the usual sides. We prefer to do other dishes & skip the Turkey. It's good, but with my spouse being a chef, Cunard's Turkey pales in comparison! Underwatr Posted August 22, 2012 #7 Share Posted August 22, 2012 We were onboard for Canadian Thanksgiving last year (same day as US Columbus Day - mid-October) and they offered a traditional Thanksgiving dinner then also.
Crusin Kelly Posted August 23, 2012 #8 Share Posted August 23, 2012 I did not read the article on Wiki... but thought I would provide some insight Thanksgiving is the 4th Thursday in November. We have a big meal and eat tooo much... then sit down for watching (American) football which ususally leads to a nap. The nap is critical since the next morning begins the Christmas shopping season. There are sales that begin all hours of the night - midnight sales are common. The stores open early and have many items discounted at unheard of costs. I stood in line two years ago for a 35in LCD TV for $125 . It is kinda of a tradition for some people. Being the start of the Christmas season, Friday and Saturday are sometimes reserved for putting the Christmas lights on the house and decorating the yards, and inside the house. Handy couple of days off for that activity. But primailly, it is a couple of days off with which to spend time with family and friends and celebrate the abundance of blessings throughout the year. Also can be a time for reflection on the not so bright events. This year, we celebrate a good and bountiful year onboard Queen Elizabeth.
