EileenN Posted August 23, 2012 #1 Share Posted August 23, 2012 Have not heard of any recent offers. We sail in 34 days and have seen a few empty nice suites. Only problem is we are "casinos at sea" clients and may not get the call. What has anyone heard recently?

Only problem is we are "casinos at sea" clients and may not get the call. What has anyone heard recently? Why not be proactive and give CAS a call and see how much it would be to upgrade. It's only a phone call and if you don't like the price, you don't have to upgrade.

One thing they will not do is touch a CAS booking. :(

Fishbait17 Posted August 23, 2012 #7 Share Posted August 23, 2012 I thought that had changed several months ago, that the upsell fairy will now work with CAS bookings. I know in the past it was impossible, but does anyone else remember there being a change to this policy? Robin Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk I too remember a post some months ago indicating that there was a change in policy regarding CAS bookings being eligible for upsells. I do not remember if it was based on the poster being contacted directly or not. But several posters commented on it and they were glad the policy had changed to include CAS bookings. jame_g Posted August 24, 2012 #9 Share Posted August 24, 2012 No, the upsell fairy is dead. She kicked the bucket after being overwhelmed with 10,000 people who called daily after making their initial deposit 18 months out. NCL decided they couldn't afford a replacement after having to pay out big bucks on her work related death to her husband, the ghost of captain morgan -- now retired and living in luxury on blackbeard's island with an ever-full goblet of jamaican rum and a free cruise in the haven every year for life (or death, not sure which). Now NCL bids the empty suites out to vacaxions2go as random upgrades to people buying last minute discounted cruises.

CruisinMaterial Posted August 24, 2012 #11 Share Posted August 24, 2012 If she's alive and well she definitely wasn't doing anything on my cruise! I had to take action to get the upgrade. I think that department is just doing larger upgrades now for suites and villas. Before they used to do anything but I see that has been cut back! Either way, I still go my upgrade so I'm a happy cruiser!!! :D
Hikini Posted August 24, 2012 #12 Share Posted August 24, 2012 I wish she would grant us the Garden Villa. We leave one week from tomorrow and have 3 mini suites on the Jewel. It would be nice to convert those into the GV! :D

But I know someone who was upsold the GV, not so long ago.... Anyway, I know it's just a pipe dream and since we're this close to our cruise, it doesn't hurt to let the dreaming really run wild! EileenN Posted August 25, 2012 Author #15 Share Posted August 25, 2012 Being part of cruise critics is dreaming...of the last cruise...of the next cruise...of the best cruise and dreaming of the upsale fairy who will call any day now and offer an awesome price on the Haven or something just as good. Don't ask me to stop.

Anyway, I know it's just a pipe dream and since we're this close to our cruise, it doesn't hurt to let the dreaming really run wild! They are not doing upsells like in the past with people moving in for just a few thousand more. They will however entertain a discounted offer last minute. No promises but if the difference between what you paid and full price is $10,000 they may take $8000. It depends I think on what existing cabins you have and if they think they can sell them as well. The Upsell Fairy no longer will proactively work to fill the GVs. They will sail them empty first. time2cruise1 Posted August 25, 2012 #18 Share Posted August 25, 2012 May I ask what kind of upgrade you got and how? Need to learn how to be my own fairy! Thanks!! Easy to learn. Watch for a higher category cabin price to drop. Call, give credit card for the difference, and you are done. I have done this as close as 3 days before a cruise. I have done this as close as 3 days before a cruise. Awsome! I had thought about this, and have been thinking of doing it for our upcoming cruise if prices drop (haven't yet) but I had heard that they may not allow you to after final payment? But it sounds like it worked for you! I book NCL direct so maybe that will help... When do prices tend to drop? How much did you save? We are about 3 months out (final payment due start of Sept) and so far prices are still high... Like to get up would be imposible to afford. I had an encounter with the upsale fairy on our Jade cruise a couple years back.. and got up sold from a aft balcony to a romance suite (now aft penthouse SF) for 500 total for a 12 day cruise... This one is a 7 day cruise so I'm hoping to spend that or less more and get us up there... but we shall see. I'm happy in a balcony if not :)

It would be nice to convert those into the GV! :D I had 3 mini suites booked for my family of 6 on the Gem last April. I tried calling about a week before. They still wanted $23,000 more on top of the $11,000 I already paid for the 3 mini suites. (it was an Easter Week cruise). I was told to check with guest services when I boarded. I checked as soon as we boarded, and they lowered the additionl price to $18,000 more. I told them I was willing to spend $6,000 more. They weren't interested. The GV was empty for the entire cruise.
