Snorkel tours from beach - Carlisle Bay

Will be in Barbados in mid-September. Looking at going to The Boatyard or Lobster Alive and hang out on the beach

Have read about snorkel tour operators that will approach you on the beach and take you off shore to snorkel with turtles, wrecks, etc for a fraction of the cost of excursions.

Just wondered what sort of experience everyone has had and whether they felt safe with these impromptu tour guides and other than the obvious, is there anything we need to be aware of?

Any suggestions on a particular boat/guide, would be welcomed!

TIA

  • 2 weeks later...

When we were at Lobster Alive this past February we almost went for only $20. pp. I don't snorkel very good, so we decided against it. Just a regular little boat as opposed to a catamaran and no drinks, lunch or beach...but already at a beautiful beach and a fraction of the cost. They take you over not far into the bay and is the same place all the catamaran excursions go to. Maybe next time we will try this.
