dileep Posted July 26, 2014 #278 Share Posted July 26, 2014 A new camera FZ1000 available now. 4k video and wi fi, shorter 400 mm lens, only f4, but bigger sensor, pricey. I think know I will stick with my FZ200 Me too! See review at http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/panasonic-lumix-dmc-fz1000/
HappyTexanKnits Posted July 27, 2014 #279 Share Posted July 27, 2014 HappyTexanKnitsHow well did your FZ200 work taking pic's in Alaska? Sorry this has taken so very long for me to get back on here. Work has been crazy! I love my camera! I've had so much fun with it - and got some great pics - both on the cruise and after I got back. The cruise album is at http://s1278.photobucket.com/user/happytexan/slideshow/Alaskan%20Cruise%202014 but here are a few of my favorites: [/img] [/img] [/img]

HappyTexanKnits Posted July 28, 2014 #281 Share Posted July 28, 2014 Really nice captures! Do you mind sharing with us the settings you were using for the whale and bird pics? Thanks! I wish I could say it was something spectacular involving random aperture and shutter settings and such...but I haven't had any time to really learn the camera - especially before I went (I really need a class or something) - so those were done in Automatic settings with what I'm assuming is "burst mode" where I held down the button and it takes about 12 pics per second. :p I am sure that's why the pics are so "noisy". A couple of my whale tale pics, though, were good enough for ID pics that were sent to NOAA to help track that Mama and her baby. So that was cool. Wansbrough Posted July 28, 2014 #282 Share Posted July 28, 2014 Wow. What an incredible photo! and to think I have camera which with the right know how could produce something like that! Well done you!!! :) I just got back from a 17-day land trip throughout France, Switzerland, and Italy as the tour director for a high school jazz band. I LOVED using my FZ200! I do think that the Intelligent Auto setting on this camera produces some great images; really good to know that merely pairing it with the burst mode can get birds in flight and whales breaching. Congrats on helping NOAA, too! :)
c230k Posted August 5, 2014 Author #284 Share Posted August 5, 2014 Thanks for sharing, the wait was worth it. Pictures like yours and others that have posted, is why the FZ200 is so popular. In fact the camera sells for the same price it did almost 2 years ago, says alot about this camera. Thanks, show us more!!! Tom  Sorry this has taken so very long for me to get back on here. Kalinda Posted August 13, 2014 #285 Share Posted August 13, 2014 How did you get that shot of the fireworks? We are heading to Disney world soon from Australia and I would love to be able to get shots like that of the fireworks. Sorry this has taken so very long for me to get back on here. I was still in the iA mode with burst turned on. ;) It eats up a lot of your memory card, but it's easy to pick the really good ones and then delete the rest! Kalinda Posted August 13, 2014 #287 Share Posted August 13, 2014 Well I can honestly say I'm very pleased to hear you say that, lol. I'm still learning and I thought there was no way I'd be able to get shots like that. I'll be sure to make full use of IA and that burst button and maybe I'll be lucky enough to get a few goods shots as well. Thanks for the reply :) I was still in the iA mode with burst turned on. ;) It eats up a lot of your memory card, but it's easy to pick the really good ones and then delete the rest! Libertarian Posted October 30, 2014 #298 Share Posted October 30, 2014 So these wouldn't work? http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000ANBCRC/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_S_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=370DA1S63AKQ9&coliid=I3KSOSLWR140FF http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00H2LGCFC/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_S_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=370DA1S63AKQ9&coliid=ILEA29FR9CNLA

Even with a tripod, the inherent loss of quality from front-end teleconverters would negate the gain in magnification. Another issue is that the weight of the teleconverter on the end of a lens not designed for it can cause mechanical issues unless you take care that it is supported. tommui987 Posted October 30, 2014 #300 Share Posted October 30, 2014 The Q&A on Amazon says that the add-ons are made by Panasonic and would work with the FZ200. I have a FZ200 but never used an add-on. I do have an add-on for my Sony e-mount lens which I use out of sheer despiration. I have used the FZ200 in Alaska and it worked fairly well for me even though the bears, goats etc were at least several hundred yards away. Admitted, I would have liked to have had a larger zoom - the FZ200 max was 600mm. I do like the idea that the new FZ1000 has a larger sensor. But it also has a shorter zoom range (400mm) and the lens varies in speed as you increase the zoom. I personally would stick with the FZ200.
