pomlover Posted September 15, 2012 #1 Share Posted September 15, 2012 Leaving on a 7 day Carnival cruise soon. I can't find how much I have to put down for a cash account. I remember it used to be based on how many days. There are 2 adults and 2 kids. Thanks
Sarapdot Posted September 15, 2012 #2 Share Posted September 15, 2012 When I was on Magic last month they told me there was no minimum amount. It used to be $250 for a 7 day cruise so I just went with that.
deborahjo Posted September 15, 2012 #3 Share Posted September 15, 2012 DH and I have started going to a Cash Account. We usually put down $400 then if we have to add more we do but that it rare.
cruisecrazy82 Posted September 15, 2012 #4 Share Posted September 15, 2012 We usually just put down about $300 total for the 2 of us. Never had a minimum requirement. Hope this helps:)
RuthlessBoss Posted September 15, 2012 #5 Share Posted September 15, 2012 It was recommended to me, as a solo, to start with $200. I didn't attempt to see if I could have started lower. It was a 7 day cruise.

You can go up in the morning and cash the check. The line is usually pretty long so we just bring it home and deposit it. Some people go to the casino the last night and download there balance to a slot machine and then cash it out. Choice is yours. I just leave it there just in case we get something late the last night.

2GACruisers Posted April 29, 2013 #10 Share Posted April 29, 2013 Used cash on Liberty in March and put down $200.00 for seven day cruise for the two of us. Also you can go down to the Guest Services Desk on the last night and close out your account and they will give you cash back. You will need to have picture ID. ccruisequeen Posted April 29, 2013 #11 Share Posted April 29, 2013 I put $200 at first. Don't forget they take out the auto tips (something like $11 a day pp) then you can use the balance for anything else) Sent from my iPod touch using Cruise Critic Forums mobile app
jordanaire Posted April 29, 2013 #12 Share Posted April 29, 2013 For all 15 of our Carnival cruises, I have used cash towards our Sail & Sign account. Carnival has never REQUIRED a certain amount of deposit per person. It's always been a RECOMMENDED amount of $200 pp. If you get low on money in your S&S account, they will call your stateroom to let you know that you need to come to Guest Services to put more cash into your account. IF you have a balance left at the end of your cruise, they will place a check in that amount under your door on debarkation day. I have always taken this check to the Guest Services deck and cashed it prior to leaving the ship. I really like to know that I'm not going to have any issues cashing it at my bank later on. Have a fantastic cruise!!! Bill
ccruisequeen Posted May 4, 2013 #13 Share Posted May 4, 2013 Now you get a notice that if you have s positive balance of more than $5 they will donate to St Jude's unless you ask for it at customer service on disembarkation day before 9am. Crazy4Cruisin225 Posted May 4, 2013 #15 Share Posted May 4, 2013 I always do a cash account. I usually go to the kiosk as soon as I board and deposit about $600 into it. If I need to I'll add more later in the week. You get a check under your door on the last night for anything left over - drawn on Bank of America. Never had a problem depositing it when I get home, but I use the same bank.
klct39lg Posted May 4, 2013 #16 Share Posted May 4, 2013 We were on the Fantasy in April 2013 and they mailed us a check about three weeks after the cruise. No check under the cabin door.

That's strange. I wonder if maybe being an older ship (the oldest) that it possibly does not have the technology to print checks, etc...??? Crazy4Cruisin225 Posted May 4, 2013 #19 Share Posted May 4, 2013 Are the kiosk open on embarkation day? Yes. They are open 24/7. I don't know if all the ships have them yet, but every ship I have been on since they started installing them a few years ago has had them. Seago2 Posted May 4, 2013 #20 Share Posted May 4, 2013 I'm seriously thinking about using cash for the first time because I'm doing a B2B with a debit card and with the merchant's hold(s) for the first cruise there could be quite a chunk of change tied up. I just don't want to stand in line- that's the deal breaker for me. So $11 pp per day for a 7 day, 3 people, is $231. With all of the other spending, including a new bathrobe, etc., I'll probably put $500 down for the 7 day, right? And i can always add to it.... And they'll cash me out and leave a check the night before. Sounds good and I'm really glad I found this thread!

The reason I asked was it seemed like the one in the atrium lobby was covered up on embarkation day my last cruise. But I remember it being there during the cruise. So I didn't know. Thanks. I know you have to carry alot of cash with you but that is why there is a safe in your room.
Seago2 Posted May 4, 2013 #23 Share Posted May 4, 2013 Has anyone ever tried to carry a cash account over onto the second leg of a B2B? A check won't do me much good for round two. Then again, I can just bring more cash.
klct39lg Posted May 4, 2013 #24 Share Posted May 4, 2013 We prepaid gratuities when we booked online. The onboard account was just for drinks and such. We deposited cash into the account at the cruise terminal when receiving our s&s cards. I checked the kiosk a couple of times during the cruise to monitor our account. Never had to go to guest services once. Loved it.
Jenna1983 Posted May 4, 2013 #25 Share Posted May 4, 2013 I think I'm buying a gift card to apply towards my account with card as a backup for my European cruise. I want to minimize my card use as much as possible while abroad.
