we will be flying into orlando airport for our january, 2013 freedom of the seas cruise. i have been searching here on cc for a reliable shuttle service from the airport to the cruise port. so far travelynx and cruisexpressfla seem to be the most recommended. i am from ontario, canada and i have a pay as you go cell phone that is not equipped to make calls outside of canada. my question is how would i get a hold of the shuttle to let them know when we are ready to be picked up? we have never sailed out of pc before, always out of fll, where taxis are readily available. have never had to arrange a shuttle before. any fellow canadians have this same quandry??

With most shuttles you arrange a pick up time when you make the booking.

If from the airport , you tell them the airline & flight # , scheduled arrival time. The driver or someone from the limo company will be waiting in the baggage area for you with a sign. Then escort you to the limo or call for it to come to get you.

It will be your transfer between port and MCO that will be the problem. The company can track your arriving flight fairly easily, but disembarkation has many more factors. What we did was call our cell provider and set up a flat rate US plan for the time we were in the US, but honestly it was a very expensive way to call the shuttle. You could find someone else on your cruise using the same shuttle, or someone with a US cell phone who doesn't mind making the call for you...it is a very quick call. When we were at PC, the travelynx shuttles were everywhere, and all the drivers have phones, so you could approach a driver and ask them to call you in. Or just get on one when you see it pull up...but that would likely be viewed unfavorably by those who have called and are waiting.

We always book a rental car (Never paid more the $40 for the day) at MCO....then we drop it off by the pier and they shuttle you over. Its about a 45 min drive from Orlando to Port Canaveral.

We have done this many times. It eliminates trying to figure out a reliable shuttle and pay crazy roaming fees when we use our Canadian Cel phones.

Are pay phones now extinct ??

I know someplaces they are hard to find but you would think they would have them in the airport still

We still have a few in the Airport in Toronto

How much does a call cost now, anyway?

OP, good idea. Stop fretting and use a pay phone, absolutely no big deal. Enjoy your cruise. :)

I know here it is 50 cents probably the same in USA

I will find out for myself in March as our cell does not have roaming or work outside of Canada

I'm trying to find the best method of transportation from MCO to the Port as well. We are from Ontario Cda, sailing on the FOS July 2013! Currently, I'm thinking the best plan might be to get a rental car from the airport, and drive 45 minutes to the Port area, and stay in a hotel just a couple of miles from the Port, and drop the vehicle off near the hotel. I've read that the car rental takes you to the port as well. We are a family of 4, and an organized shuttle seems expensive, since we aren't splitting the cost between families or anything like that. Where are you from? I will want to hear all about your cruise! We've done the IOS, but not the FOS. They are the same class, so I presume not many differences. Best of luck!
