Bottles of alcohol in room?

First cruise without my mom coming up in December. Since it is no longer on mommy's bill, I'm going about the cheapest way of doing everything! lol. So I feel like I remember seeing pictures in people's reviews of alcohol already waiting in their cabin when they board. I don't think it was alcohol they smuggled onboard. I'm not referring to wine because I know I can carry on a bottle. I mean hard liquor. So is there a way I can order it ahead of time and have it waiting for me?

I'm not *for sure* if this applies to hard liquor or not, but I know there are several different things (wine, fruit baskets, etc.) that you can order through CCL's Bon Voyage service--they'll have it attractively wrapped and waiting in your cabin when you arrive. Look under the "Manage My Cruise" tab on your Carnival.com account. You'll be able to browse all the food/decorations/clothing offered through Bon Voyage.

Just ordered a Bottle of Absolute and Bailey's for our Oct. cruise. It will be gift wrapped and waiting in my cabin.

Yes it is a lot more than what it costs you at home, but if you were to buy 32/33 drinks on board at approx. $6.00 =$192.00/$198.00

Cost of Absolute=$60.00 + Tax

Cost of Bailey's = $60.00 + Tax

$128.00 total So in the long run you do say some money.

Liquor has to be bought over the phone. You can not do it online. The prices are high. However, you do not have to worry about a bottle breaking or having it confiscated like you do when smuggling. We usually purchase a liter of Amaretto through Carnival and smuggle in DH's whiskey.

As stated above, Bon Voyage is the least

expensive way to enjoy hard liquor without

running afoul of Carnival rules.

You can carry on your own "mixers" if the

free Lido beverages aren't to your liking -

fruit punch / Coke, etc. (up to twelve

20 oz bottles per person). You also can

get creative and bring powered Kool-Aid

or Crystal lite.

Have fun!

I've been told that you can indeed order a bottle while on board, for the same Bon Voyage prices. Tax might be different if I remember correct...

This is correct. We went through a bottle of Grey Goose a little faster than usual once and had another delivered to the room within a couple hours. I'm not sure how my fiance made it happen, but I believe she did it through room service.

You are correct. I have done this many times. The only draw back is you must be in your cabin when they deliver and I waited 2 hours once on embarkation day. They will not deliver if you are not there to sign for it. I will pay the taxes from Bon Boyage now rather than the inconvienience of waiting for room service.

Also keep in mind if sailing out of Galveston, due to the liquor laws in TX, if you order Bon Voyage it may not be delivered until day 2. If you wait until you are in international waters, you can have it the evening of embarkation through room service.

How about a bottle from room service on day 2 or 3? Anyone done this?

We have ordered a liter of rum from room service on our last 3 sailings dating as far back as our sailing on Triumph in 2007 to most recently on Fantasy in March of this year. I have heard it is ship specific but so far it is a yes on Fantasy.

One more question about ordering from room service: do they charge you the 15% gratuity? Of course, I would tip the steward extra, but just wondered if there was an auto tip also. TIA

They do not charge a 15% gratuity on the room service bottle. We always tip the person who brings it $1 to $2.00 when they arrive.

One note: If you cruise out of Texas, the bottle will not be waiting for you in your room at embarkation. Because of Texas liquor laws, they wait until the ship is a certain distance from land to deliver it. It will be delivered in your cabin most likely when you are at dinner that first night. Because of this, you also will not have to pay tax.

This option seems good, do you bring a flask to mix drinks around the ship or do you go up to the room to mix every drink?

Do they say anything in the lounges if you order a soft drink and use a fask?

Some people use flasks, some people carry the whole bottle with them, others go back to the room. The option is yours, they will not say anything about it in any venue (other than maybe the Steakhouse or Chef's Table). The only thing they prefer is that you don't bring glass on the open decks - lots of bare feet around.

They frown on you taking/drinking from an open bottle of alcohol anywhere on the ship other than your room. I've seen security escort people back to their room to put their liquor bottle away (they were in the casino bar area).

We just make drinks in the room & carry them around in our own insulated mugs. If we want more, we either order drinks on board or go make another in the room (and go to our own bathroom:D).

I don't know if they forbid it but personally I think it just looks bad to drink straight from the bottle. We have taken an open bottle of champagne with us to dinner because we had not finished it before dinner and the waiters did not mind that we finished it during dinner (using champagne glasses of course).

Another way is to check the roll call from the cruise before yours, get someone to purchase a bottle from the piquor store, and then hide it the morning they leave. You do and pick it up after you board, and voila!

Surrender the Booty!
