Do you Dance?????

We are not very good dancers and we love and admire couples out there on the dance floor. Have seen very talented people and would love to learn the steps.

When you are on a cruise, do you and your partner dance? Are you self-taught or did you take lessons?

I know there is a DVD for "Dancing for Dummies". Thinking about getting it.

Are you a dancer or admirer from afar?

I love to dance but, being solo, ! won't have a dance partner when Mom & I cruise in Dec. Don't think that will stop me though! :D There are TONS of how-to dance instruction videos on You Tube so, save your money and go online.

Half the fun is being eager to just get out there and TRY. Try not to be self conscious. If you think people are looking at you.....yes, we are so enjoying seeing YOU have a good time!;) Let your fun be contagious!

Just remember, you can improvise. Kinda like signing in the shower...... dancing is FUN!

I dance, no lessons, and certainly not the best either. I learned from watching others and have confidence. Of course, a crowded dance floor makes it more difficult, lest I knock in to someone as I twirl my partner around.

Best dancing was on a stormy night on QE2, in the Queens Room, that was a challenge as the floor might not be where you expect it to be!

I just watch others, I don't need to be Fred Astaire, but I hold my own.

The Tango is the one I have yet to master and would like to.

Just have fun, don't knock anyone over, watch others, and don't look to show off unless you really can.

I too, would love to dance, but have a wife who refuses to set foot on the dance floor. :confused:I know she'd do O.K., and as noted above, as long as she's having fun, who cares. I certainly am not a candidate for "Dancing with the Stars", but I love music, and rhythm, and love to watch others on the dance floor. Oh how I'd love to join 'em! :cool:Maybe it's a pilot thing Lou? :D

Our daughter's friend just opened a dance studio in town, we are planning on learing the salsa before our next cruise. We watched a couple almost every night out on the dance floor, near the casino on our last cruise, so when dd's friend opened this summer we vowed we would learn to dance!

DW and I took dance lessons a few years ago, so that we didn't look like complete fools at her Neice's wedding.

We really enjoyed it at the lessons, and even went back for a few more "advanced" sessions.

This past new years eve, our DS was with us at the local fire department dance, and told us after wards, "hey you guys really know how to dance!"

However we have never made it into the dance clubs or onto the dance floors on any of the cruises that we've been on.... too much to do, too little time.

Perhaps in April on the Freedom we will be able to "cut a rug" once or twice. I really hope so.

LOL at Gangnam style!

I dance a lot on cruises, usually with lots of different people due to a lack of guys for the women to dance with. They all have different skill levels, some know particular dances, waltz, chacha, etc., but many of them don't, they just have some rhythm and like to dance.

You don't need to know 'the steps' of any particular dance to have fun and avoid being self conscious. I would recommend learning a basic box step, which you can speed up or slow down with different kinds of music and then just practice dancing together so you feel comfortable and get in synch. Also, it is super important for the man to lead! Probably the most common thing you see when dancing looks bad (and not very fun) is when the man is obviously not thrilled to be out there and is being dragged around by significant other. Be a real man and take control! And ladies, if he's able to lead, you have to follow. Everybody wins.

I cruised solo, but I took part in dancing anyway. There was a lot of Latin music playing, even a live band, so that meant lots of dancers getting out on the floor. A simple "would you like to dance?" is usually all it takes; social dance etiquette discourages people from turning someone down anyway. I ended up dancing a lot during my cruise, and had a blast doing it.

I've been taking dance classes for quite some time, and if you want to learn specific dances, that's what I recommend. The best learning is by doing. Learning to dance by watching a video is like learning a foreign language from TV instead of practicing conversations yourself with native speakers. Either way, having learned Latin dances made my cruise a lot more fun.

We took dance lessons to have a coreographed dance at our wedding and it was alot of fun and a hit at the wedding. We've forgotten most of the steps since then and so admire couples dancing from afar. I've seen some really good couples dance in the atrium and always say that we'll get lessons and do it on a future cruise

On 10/7 over 400 Carolina Shag Dancers will be on Legend, including these 2. They're pretty good (as in 10 time national champions good). Enjoy....

well...I guess it is better than 400 square dancers

yep, I said it.

Check to see if your community ever offers adult ed classes at night. Ours does this a few times a year at local high schools and you can select a lot of arts/crafts etc., but they also offer basic ballroom dance and line dance. We've done this a couple of times, and while you don't learn to dance like Dancing with the starts, you will learn enough to give you some self confidence to get out on the floor.

We dance, but not near as much or as often as when we were younger. The ol' knees ain't what they used to be.

I've been dancing since I figured out in high school that guys that can dance will have no shortage of dates.............:D

In fact, I tricked my wife into going out with me when I first met her by telling her I would take dance lessons with her. She didn't want it to be a "date". Just dance lessons................I had other motives..............:p

Hubby and I take dance lessons locally. Have lots of fun. We have learned swing, waltz, hustle, fox trot, and cha-cha. There is much more to it than meets the eye.

Three or four times a year, there are public dances the group goes to. We went to one Friday night. George Clooney's dad was there. Rosemary Clooney's neice was a singer in the band. She would refer to her as Aunt Rosie.

I like to dance, DH not so much...but he loves me, so he does it when I really want to, and he even pretends to be enjoying himself! :p

“Sing like no one's listening, love like you've never been hurt,

dance like nobody's watching, and live like its heaven on earth.”

I was fortunate to find and capture another dance-a-holic in mid-life! I was lucky to find him.

We close the disco down nearing 50!

We tried the communnity college swing lessons - but we are going to do salsa next - the other didn't go so well because of the way the class was structured - AND we prefer more of a free style than

1-2-3-4

After a few drinks -- who can count that fast LOL and all that twirling makes me dizzy!

:) I wish more people would get up out of their chairs and JUST DO IT!

"And those who were seen dancing were thought insane by those

who could not hear the music."
