Port of San Diego info needed.

This HI is RIGHT across the street from the pier. In fact, one of the towers lines right up with the bow of the ship. From this tower, walking to the front desk is almost exactly the same distance as walking to the ship. The other towers are a bit more of a walk of course.

As mentioned, the shuttle is happy to take you across the street if you wish. They almost begged us to use the shuttle instead of walking it, so we did the first time. Next time we called the front desk to check out and just walked across the 4 lanes of street (there is a signal there) - no problem. It would have taken us a longer walk to get to the shuttle!

You will be directly across the street from the cruise ship terminal. If you are in the south tower facing the bay, the ship's bow will be right in front of you.

Whenever we sail from San Diego that is where we stay - Have a great trip.

There is a long traffic light at a broad, level crosswalk, giving everyone plenty of time to get across. Although the street has heavy traffic, crossing it is not dangerous at all as long as you cross at the traffic light.

Lots of people go across that street with luggage and wheelchairs and strollers and we even saw a guy on crutches doing it.

Many walk across the street to dine at the seafood restaurant right beside the cruise pier.

When you check in at the hotel, also sign up for your shuttle time for the following day.

You both can ride over in the shuttle with your luggage, or one can ride and one can walk over, however you prefer.

Once he sees it for himself, he can easily make his own determination as to whether or not he would want to walk across.

Don't try walking across the street. We did this the last time and never again. They were giving nearly everyone late shuttle times and many of us decided to walk across. We had a terrible time getting our luggage across and also into the actual port area. Walking across will work for people with limited luggage who have no difficulty handling luggage.

The shuttle works well if you can get a decent shuttle time or if you don't mind the later times. I would like to know about taxi experiences for HI on the Bay across to the port. Is it difficult to get a taxi to do that short a trip?

We stayed at the HI in April and it was so close to the terminal that we could hear the announcements being made on board.

We took a walk in the morning past the terminal down to the Midway. Came back, had a light breakfast and then downstairs to the shuttle. Although walking to the terminal was certainly doable, I'm not crazy about schlepping my luggage across traffic.
