Kangapong Posted October 3, 2012 #1 Share Posted October 3, 2012 I'm preparing to place my Bon Voyage liquor order and need help deciding which Rum to buy. I will be mixing it with Coke Zero and occasionally coffee. Which would you choose? Cruzan Light ($50), Appleton White ($60), Appleton Estate V/X ($60) or Bacardi Superior ($60) or ?? Thank you! :)
drosphot Posted October 3, 2012 #2 Share Posted October 3, 2012 I prefer VX but its a spiced rum so it makes for a sweeter drink when mixed with soda. The DW hates it...
gargeo83 Posted October 3, 2012 #3 Share Posted October 3, 2012 I ordered Appleton Estate V/X on my Bon Voyage order for my upcoming cruise. However I knew before hand that I like it best. The first time I had it was on a cruise so now each time I have it it reminds me of cruising. If you havent tried any of them I would suggest to try them before you place your order. Bon Voyage has them priced twice as much as what they are normally priced at the local store.

Enjoy!:)
bruisin4cruisin Posted October 3, 2012 #8 Share Posted October 3, 2012 I like Cruzan, finished off a huge bottle the other day. I also like to put a lime in my rum and cokes, especially a rum that is spiced, like Capt. Morgan.
nodogkisses Posted October 3, 2012 #9 Share Posted October 3, 2012 I prefer Cruzan, too. Started drinking it a few years ago after tasting it at the free Liquor Tasting on the first night. We bought several bottles to take home that cruise and each cruise following.

Blk Cherry Mojito Posted October 4, 2012 #13 Share Posted October 4, 2012 I love Cruzan. It is a product of St. Croix ( I just learned this in St. Thomas this year). Can anyone guess my favorite flavor????? ;)
Kangapong Posted October 4, 2012 Author #14 Share Posted October 4, 2012 Looks like you are getting 2 bottles, my friend. You're right. I have tried Appleton Estate V/X in the past and loved it, but I have always wanted to try Cruzan. Looks like I can't go wrong with a bottle of each. Cheers! boaterette Posted October 4, 2012 #17 Share Posted October 4, 2012 Have not tried Appleton. Cruzan gives me a headache like you wouldn't believe. I would probably order the Bacardi.
Doug910 Posted October 4, 2012 #18 Share Posted October 4, 2012 ...Same here. Get a huge headache from Cruzan. I would go with Appleton if I was adding non-carbonated mixes (punch, juice, coffee) and Bacardi (or Capt. Morgan) if I was going with soda (Coke, Diet Coke). Those suggestions always worked for me. YMMV.
karinski Posted October 4, 2012 #19 Share Posted October 4, 2012 I just purchased Bacardi from Bon Voyage. I was going to buy the Cruzan because it was 10.00 cheaper and was told that all the rum was 60.00. So either they don't carry it anymore or they raised the price of the Cruzan to 60$ also. cotton32563 Posted October 4, 2012 #20 Share Posted October 4, 2012 Anyone know if they carry the flavored Cruzan rum? I love the Black Cherry mixed with diet gingerale.
silvercrikhix Posted October 4, 2012 #21 Share Posted October 4, 2012 (edited) Nada on the flavored Cruzan for Bon Voyage, sorry. I do recall it in the inboard store, to bring home, though. Go with the Appleton Estates V/X, good stuff and Caribbean product! Edited October 4, 2012 by silvercrikhix
Rare sparks1093 Posted October 4, 2012 #22 Share Posted October 4, 2012 Just ordered a bottle two days ago- Cruzan is out of stock (do not know for how long) so I went with Bacardi (it comes in 1 liter bottles).
tef43 Posted October 4, 2012 #23 Share Posted October 4, 2012 I would not ruin any decent rum by mixing it with sodapop, so go with what is cheapest.
soulsistah007 Posted October 4, 2012 #24 Share Posted October 4, 2012 Nada on the flavored Cruzan for Bon Voyage, sorry. I do recall it in the inboard store, to bring home, though. They definitely have flavored cruzan on the ship store on board but I think they are more expensive there than if you buy it in port. My fav is vanilla! Goes great with everything!! :-)

Go with the Appleton Estates V/X, good stuff and Caribbean product! Is this a flavored rum? Is it good mixed with gingerale or sprite? Or is this one of those that is better with a juice?
