Cell Phone service in AK?

Wondering about cell phone reception in alaska and while cruising the inside passage. We have TracPhone, ATT and Virgin Mobile phones. Any one have experience/knowledge of using these networks? Please advise and thanks.

Had ATT for my phone as well as my iPad and had no trouble connecting in any of the ports. FYI, if you stop in Vancouver or Victoria, it is international and you get charged international rates unless you have an international option in your cell package.

Another AT&T user here. On previous trips I had a cheap flip phone and had no problems with calls or texts in ports. Now I have an iPhone 4s and used it for voice, texts, data (Facebook, email, etc.) in ports this past July. Data was a little slow in places, but usable. I was able to find free WiFi a couple of times, which really helps. I turn off my phone while on the ship and in Canada (Victoria, Yukon) to avoid extra charges.
