Forgive me if this has been asked recently, but we sail on the Dream Saturday (10-27) and we just received an e-mail from Carnival:

URGENT NOTICE

Carnival Dream

October 27, 2012

Hi there!

Betcha can't wait for your cruise aboard the beautiful Carnival Dream. So, we'd like to take a moment to provide you with some important information.

To ensure a smooth embarkation experience, check-in for your cruise is scheduled from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. For your comfort and convenience, and since seating is limited in the cruise terminal, we ask that you
please not arrive before 1:00 PM.

We thank you for your cooperation and understanding. Most importantly, we can't wait to welcome you aboard for a fun and memorable cruise vacation.

See you soon!

Is this something Carnival is sending to everyone, or is there possibly an issue at Port Canaveral?

Thanks,

John

Perhaps Carnival is anticipating a later than scheduled arrival due to the proximity of Tropical Storm Sandy? Friday/Saturday seems to be the days when the storm will be passing over the central Bahamas & make her closest approach to Florida.

Don't know if the Dream is gone with the FTTF program, but I usually ignore those e-mails and get there as early as possible. Never had to wait long to board either. JMHO

Thanks guys, I suspected it might be a routine thing now.

We're not sailing until November 10th out of Miami, and Carnival has changed the embark time (previously 12:00 to 2:30) on our boarding passes to 1:00 to 3:00.

Hopefully routine.

I got one before our last Carnival cruise in 2009 LOL.I expect to get another one in the 2nd week of January. Hopefully enough people take it seriously so we can have less of a line when we show up around 11 LOL

I suggest you phone them and ask since the delay may be due to delays on the ship (weather, storm), health problems (virus on board), mechanical (ship problems), or port issues (delays at the port). I was on the Valor in late Aug and they sent out an e-mail to warn of weather (hurricane Issac) that could delay embarkation and on the day of the cruise they told people the port was closed & not to go there. They then cancelled the 1st day due to Issac. I have been on another cruise where the noro virus caused the cruise line to clean the ship which delayed embarkation till 4pm & people who showed up early were not being processed and stood in line at the port. When this happened I phone them and they told me not to go to the port until the recommended time.

I'm so glad I found this post! We just got this for our Liberty cruise this week going out of Miami. We've sailed Carnival several times and never got anything like this except when we boarded in Ensenada. They must be trying to save congestion at the ports is all I can think if they are sending to other ships/sailing dates as well.

It may be a parking issue too. Dream used to come into Terminal 10. Now it comes into the new terminal 6. They added a parking garage to the terminal 5/6 lot, but I am guessing that when the Dream is in, it can be a bit of a backlog at the lot if people show up before they can get the lot cleared out from the prior cruise. Traffic flow also seems to be an issue. A consulting firm was recently hired to figure out ways to improve the flow at the new terminal.

I think Ecstasy also goes out of Terminal 5 on the same day. So two ships departing and two ships arriving to the same parking area.

Hey all, glad i found this thread, im set to sail on the dream in 3 days and just got this message. I live about 20 mins from the port, but we are planning on arriving 10:30 instead of the requested 1. Now if you talk to carnival, they say they will not board you before then. Was this the case for you guys ? Hope your cruises were great !
