RS Suite & Captain's Club

Is there anything you get from being a CAptain's Club member that you won't have by being in a Royal Suite?

Thanks

Only thing I can think of off hand is that you won't be invited to the Captains Club reception. There might be more but that's what I can think of right now.

Voyager of the Sea -- September 2001; Galaxy -- May 2002; Zuiderdam -- September 2003; Summit -- April 2004; CAN'T WAIT -- SUMMIT OCTOBER 2004

Is that really bad? I mean we're sailing the Galaxy and Celebrity for the first time next March in an RS and obviously won't "qualify" for the Captains Club on our first cruise but what will we miss? Haven't made a habit of going to Mariners receptions on HAL.

Actually, yes, there is.

As a captains club member, you will receive (in your state room during the cruise) a 'folder' with some niceties (sp?)... these would be yours if you were in a royal suite, or not. The specifics of what you get probably depend on what captain's club level you are at, but, have included (for us at least).... Casino 'Match Play' coupons (you bet $5, the house adds another $5 to your bet), and discounts/freebies on spa services (in our case, Rasul freebie).

You miss the Captain's Club Party, but they have a reception for all of the higher suites with the ship's officers...very nice. We were in a RS on the Galaxy last month as Captain's Club members, and we had invitations to something different everyday...only 2 of them being Captain's Club oriented. You'll be very busy!!

Enjoy the Royal Suite...we did!

Not to hijack this thread but since we're talking RS cabins on the Galaxy.....what is the condition of the cabins? There is at least one posting here on another thread, and maybe more, that mentioned their RS was a little worn and in need of renovation. Since we're so excited about the itinerary and the chance to drive to the port instead of fly the condition of the cabin won't keep us from going but we are curious. We're getting a good deal but then again don't want to pay too much for a substandard cabin even if it's a big one.

Well - I didn't ask about any ship in particular in my original post, but the ship I am booked on is the Mercury.

I sailed on the Zenith 5 years ago. I guess that alone makes me eligible for the Captain's Club. I see no downside in joining. It doesn't cost anything.

And aren't the great majority of passengers already members?

We stayed in an RS in November and loved it. It is true to say that there was some signs of wear, but absolutely not enough to make any difference to our enjoyment. I thought the cabin was superb and it was kept spotlessly clean. I know a previous poster did say about broken furniture in their room, which is not acceptable no matter what cabin it is.

I will glady e-mail you some photos of our cabin if you would like. My e-m address is adamson.philly@virgin.net.

Hi There!

I was the one that posted recently (Galaxy 3-26-04) about the broken couch, and no TV in the living room. After complaining for 5 days, and eventually going to the hotel manager, it was repaired/replaced.

The couch wouldn't have been a big deal normally, but our 15 year old daughter was cruising with us, and had to sleep on it. The bed was in such a bad state, that she slept acrossed it in a trench, with her legs hanging over the side. We showed it to the room steward twice, but wasn't able to get it repaired until we left a message with the Hotel manager, and he sent up the Head Housekeeper. It was repaired as good as it could be within an hour (still had a crevice in it, but at least she could lay in a way that her bottom was in it, and she could use the whole bed!)

Another thing that got our attention was that out on the balcony, we had a couple of places that had missing steel panels in the overhang. Kinda unsitely, but doesn't effect how the ship functions. As far as we were concerned, Galaxy is showing more wear than the Century!

The main thing to knows is, don't take "It's not my job" as an answer!

Have a wonderful cruise..we STILL did!

Jaime

Cabin #1040!!!

The suite was HUGE, and we really enjoyed the space, but I'd have to point to the Butler as the biggest problem. He was on his last cruise before going home, and he just didn't want to deal with any problems. We had a fellow Cruise Critic 2 doors down with the same Butler, and they found him WONDERFUL! He just wasn't good with anything out of the ordinary.

Once we let the problems become known to the powers that be, everything was PERFECT! Wish the whole 10 days could have been like the last 5. This will NEVER happen to us again. Once we let a problem be known to a room steward or butler, if it isn't resolved in a few hours, we will once again go to the hotel manager.

Overall, we LOVED the Galaxy!

Take Care,

Jaime

Thanks Jamie. Had me worried for a moment. icon_smile.gif You never know who to talk to about cabin problems. We had a toilet that wouldn't flush properly and we called the front desk since it was the first day of our cruise and we'd only seen our room steward once and hardly knew him. Nothing happened. Next morning the room steward shows up with our breakfast and we tell/show him the problem. 45 minutes later it was fixed!!!

We are sailing on the Galaxy in Feb. 2005. We are staying in the Penthouse suite-what kind of invitations might we expect to get? We stayed in a Royal Suite 2 years ago and were not invited to anything extra-we are traveling with our 6 year old. Thanks for any input!!!

Hi There!

The 2 invitations that were suite related that interested us was the informal afternoon tea just for the higher suites (Royal and Penthouse on the Century Class ships) in the dining room (seperate from the one thrown for everyone else...must be in pantsuit/dress, and for guys a jacket). The other thing was coffee/tea and pastries with the ships officers. They had this at Michael's Club on the last morning at sea. I'll have to go through our bag of stuff, cause there was soomething else, but I can't remember what it was. I know that between Captain's Club, Cruise Critic, and Suites, we had an invite to something on 8 seperate days!

The one BIG thing we enjoyed by having a suite was the Priority Tender Service. We got yellow tender tickets the night before we had to tender, and we went to the Cinema to wait to get on the next tender, and we enjoyed coffee/tea and pastries while we waited. As soon as the next tender was free, we were taken to the tender, and put at the front of the line...no waiting...no lines! If your Butler forgets to put these tickets in your room, like ours would forget to, ASK FOR THEM!!

As was mentioned before, CC has become so popular now that it's free, that anything Captain's Club related, we stayed awasy from. Just too many people. We're Select members, so we also got invited to the behind the scenes tour of the theater, and the Galley Tour, on top of the Captain's Club Party.

Our favorite thing we went to was our Cruise Critic Party, the first morning at sea. Be sure to sign up, and get involved in your Roll Calls. This makes the cruise even better. It's been over a month since we've been home, and we still post on our Roll Call!

Take Care, All!

Jaime

icon_cool.gifThanks for the info! I would really love an invite to the bridge-we got that on RCCL when we had the owners suite. We belong to CC, but also find the events way too crowded. We are sailing to Bermuda on the Zenith in June-we can't wait!!!!Thanks again!

We had a RS on Mercury for the New Year's sailing and found it to be in good shape. Granted, they aren't quite as spiffy as the ones on the M-class ships, but we enjoyed it a lot.

The problem with a RS is.... once you've had one nothing else will do!

This will be our first X cruise and therefore our first RS. My dream retirement cruise is the Med and I have a feeling I'd better start planning and saving for the RS on that cruise in 3 years. DW will never go back inside..... icon_rolleyes.gif

They can bring in a rollaway if the couch is unaccepatable. Me personally....I'd try to switch cabins though. If 1054 is still available, it's more midship, and not as much activity on the floor above you (we were awakened every morning to pool chairs, and at night the teen group would run over our heads!)

The room steward can also fix the couch each night like he did for us, by stuffing mattress pads under the trench, and bringing it up some.

By the way, if you like a soft bed (the bed was rock hard in the bedroom) ask the room steward to put matress pads on the matress until it's soft enough for you. I had him do this when I found out about the matress pads (when he fixed the couch) and it was HEAVEN! DH likes a hard matress, and I like a soft, so he fixed up my side of the bed with 2 matress pads, and I slept like a baby!

Take Care,

Jaime

Not sure if 1054 is a good idea. I have seen a several posts from people saying there is noise from the grill above.

It is luck of the draw but we were in 1038 and never heard a thing.
