RobinSie Posted November 11, 2012 #1 Share Posted November 11, 2012 I'm wondering what the temps are like in the MDRs and entertainment venues. My DD and I tend to get chilly, so do we need to pack sweaters for these areas? Thanks for your response. Robin
Single Cruiser Posted November 11, 2012 #2 Share Posted November 11, 2012 That's a very subjective question for some it will be too hot, others too cold depending on what you are used to! On Epic I found it was just about right, maybe a tad on the warmer side.
Plan B Posted November 11, 2012 #3 Share Posted November 11, 2012 I suppose it also depends where you are cruising to and the time of year. We were Canaries in April and in the evenings it was much warmer inside the dining areas than outside. No need for wraps, shrugs etc. Sandals & sleeveless were required. canuckgal Posted November 11, 2012 #4 Share Posted November 11, 2012 I find the older and/or heavier you are, the warmer you are. I am mid- thirties and a healthy weight and I FREEZE everywhere on the ship.
Snowrose Posted November 11, 2012 #5 Share Posted November 11, 2012 Six years ago on the Spirit, I was freezing in all the public rooms. Even a sweater wasn't enough to keep me warm. On the Jewel last week the public rooms were a reasonable temperature, though I'd brought a sweater and did wear it each time just in case. SASA13 Posted November 11, 2012 #6 Share Posted November 11, 2012 I always pack a sweater, better safe than sorry :) Last December on the Epic, I did find it was warmer than other ships I had been on. I carried my sweater to the MDR nightly, and only used it a few times.
david_sobe Posted November 11, 2012 #7 Share Posted November 11, 2012 Totally normal to pack sweaters and sweat shirts even during summer on carribean cruises. The AC is usually cranking in those areas
RobinSie Posted November 12, 2012 Author #8 Share Posted November 12, 2012 We will be on the Epic in the EC in 3 weeks. I guess I will take sweaters just to be safe. That is way better than the winter coat I would need here in St Louis that week!

Go by your own experience. Go by what you experience in other hotels and restaurants.
karoo Posted November 12, 2012 #10 Share Posted November 12, 2012 I always find the aircon way too cold on the NCL ships. If you're a healthy weight you'll be cold inside. I think they make it cold to allow for the very overweight people. I turn it down in my room and go outside a lot to warm up! We found ourselves doing heaps of dancing at night just to keep ourselves warm on our last cruise. Also wore a cardigan to dinner in the MDR. debnjoe1438 Posted November 12, 2012 #11 Share Posted November 12, 2012 I always take a wrap as in the evening, it seems the thermostate is turned down.
JerseyGem Posted November 12, 2012 #12 Share Posted November 12, 2012 As others have posted, this is very subjective, but I definitely recommend that you be prepared for cool environments in some of the venues. Also, you'll probably want to have something to wear for late night strolls around the upper decks- very romantic unless you're freezing in the wind. NCL stores sell synthetic pashmimas (spelling???) for around $10 (and sweatshirts, etc). Sometimes they have lovely multi-colored ones that can "go" with any outfit but fold up fairly small for easy handling and packing.
trish1c Posted November 12, 2012 #13 Share Posted November 12, 2012 Since you classify yourself as someone who gets chilly, definitely pack a sweater or wrap. Personally I think the temps resemble meat locker. I have never so much as been comfortable, let alone warm, in an indoor venue at night on the ship. Even with a sweater, I pilfer DH's sports coat. Thank heavens that even with resort casual, he wears a jacket simply so I can steal it. :D
weltek Posted November 12, 2012 #14 Share Posted November 12, 2012 Definitely plan for a wrap or sweater in the evenings. If you take a stroll outside at night, it will also be a little chilly and likely windy, so plan accordingly.
RobinSie Posted November 14, 2012 Author #15 Share Posted November 14, 2012 I dislike being cold, so I will be prepared and take sweaters. Much appreciated! Robin
