FloridaMomma Posted December 3, 2012 #26 Share Posted December 3, 2012 I didn't drink alcohol on our last cruise. I bought the soda package, and ended up getting a few drinks from the coffee shop. It was a 3-night cruise, and I would say I spent about $35 on drinks.

kevinsgirl88 Posted December 3, 2012 #28 Share Posted December 3, 2012 me and hubby spent 100 per day on drinks and we also had the soda package so we drank between 7 to 10 drinks a day :D
Jan_In_Maine Posted December 3, 2012 #29 Share Posted December 3, 2012 I keep forgetting to add of the wine/drinks purchased. We enjoy doing wine pairings, and wine/beer tastings, so that probably adds a bit. I also love my appletinis in the evening. Our TA always gives us a bottle (I just love her!) and we go to the welcome back parties. Guess I should check out what we spend on that! Enjoy your cruise, Jan
canadian cruise fan Posted December 3, 2012 #30 Share Posted December 3, 2012 On our Oasis cruise 10/20/2012 our totals were $220.00 for my self $150.00 for my wife and $0.00 for my father in law. This is typical of what we would spend on a 7 day cruise. I would have 1 or 2 beer during the day and a drink with dinner. My wife had wine with dinner and the occasonal cocktail. My father in law is a non drinker. I should mention that I was on a sail and snorkle excursion that included alcohol and I am a big fan of supporting the local economy by buying 99 cent beer from street front bars. If I had drank that much on board it would have doubled my bar bill!
jakenashleysmom Posted December 3, 2012 #31 Share Posted December 3, 2012 So you are NOT asking this to in anyway improve or to plan better for an upcoming cruise!?!? Seeing that you have already cruised and seem to know exactly what your are NOT going to spend on drinks. So ...... you're just being NOSY!!! Asking questions about others spending or $$$ in general, for no other reason than to be NOSY is considered rude........ at least in this culture it is. :D :) OP, pay no attention to this drivel. Any question is a valid question, and don't feel you are being nosey. Please don't judge OUR culture by people like this. Have a great cruise! SusieV Posted December 3, 2012 #33 Share Posted December 3, 2012 $55pp + 15% per night :) We each take Celebrity's alcohol package. Without that, we're in the $30-$40pp range with wine and cocktails. We like to enjoy ourselves on vacation. And yes, RCI- that means we spend more when the packages are available. Please offer a Celebrity type package so we can try out Allure! Iluvcruising2 Posted December 4, 2012 Author #34 Share Posted December 4, 2012 I have cruised a bit, not a lot, but growing. In a way, I am being nosy. It is interesting to observe the spending pattern on cruise ships and also how they may differ from region to region. We are all here to learn and share. On a typical sailing out of Asia, I would assume that the average spend on alcohol (and drinks) would be a lot less, though I don't know just how much less. I do know some of our friends/colleagues who have sailed on RCI absolutely loved the drinks. Some of them had a couple of beers a day simply because they found the prices to be reasonable and there was a selection of beers that are not commonly found in Singapore. I have also discussed with my Dad. I think if we have several adults drinking, we wouldn't hesitate to order a bottle of wine at dinner. But the problem is that there is just the two of us who drink and we can't finish the bottle.

Rare nbsjcruiser Posted December 4, 2012 #38 Share Posted December 4, 2012 Just wondering what your average spend is like, on a per-day basis. We come from Singapore and we don't really have a culture of drinking. So I am just wondering how much cruisers from other countries spend. In our case, I recall I didn't even have a single paid drink in my last 8 nights cruise. Ok, I had some complimentary wine during the C&A Welcome Back and Top-Tier party. So the spend on alcohol was $0! And we are not Diamond yet, so we don't have access to free alcohol. On our recent 4 day on the Majesty we bought 1 bottle of wine ($45) and had maybe 5-7 drinks the rest of the week. I know a guy from my old neighbourhood who I accidentally ran into into Miami a couple years ago after we both were coming off different ships. He spent $2000 on his bar bill. Sorry, I'm really ignorant. Do we have to consume the entire bottle at one dinner? If not, how long can it be kept for? I assume not more than 2 days since once a bottle of wine is opened, it spoils rather quickly.
jakenashleysmom Posted December 4, 2012 #40 Share Posted December 4, 2012 They will mark the bottle with your table number and keep it for you for dinner the next night...or lunch the next day. Or you could take it with you to your cabin if you would like. I don't think it matters to them how long you intend to keep it there once its paid for that would be up to you. Next night you don't have to say anything if you are doing assigned dining times, the bottle will be there on your table. If you're doing any time dining and get a different waiter, simply tell him you have a bottle of wine and he'll take your room number and go get it. gotitright Posted December 4, 2012 #42 Share Posted December 4, 2012 On our cruise this past March ... other than at Cozumel, I think my wife and I each averaged MAYBE 2 alcoholic drinks each day. We ALSO had the soft-drink package. On our next cruise, we are not planning on getting the soft-drink package, but MAY end up averaging 3 drinks each day. (Though, I have a feeling it will average to 2 drinks per day.) As for the cost, I really don't know, but I tend to not like spending a lot of money on alcohol. pltag Posted December 4, 2012 #43 Share Posted December 4, 2012 Wow, really? I always thought asking questions was called being curious and learning.I have a few questions then: How much did you spend on your new car? I already have a new car ...... just curious! How much do you spend per child on Christmas presents? I'm done with all my shopping ...... just curious! How much did you spend on your wife's engagement ring? Been married 23 years ...... just curious! First of all ....... I was pretty much just having a little fun. The point of this site (as I see it) is to obtain information / opinions to better prepare for and enjoy a cruise. For a non-drinker to ask how much drinkers spend is at the very least NOSEY, and in my opinion being nosey is being rude.
SusieV Posted December 5, 2012 #44 Share Posted December 5, 2012 The alcohol package on Celebrity sounds very interesting. How does it work? Do you have to purchase for the entire cruise or can you select the days you want the package? Must all adults in the same cabin purchase the package? You can purchase it up until 2 nights are left in the cruise, but you must pay for all remaining days. You can't cherry pick. It basically includes everything. Any alcoholic drink up to $12/glass, and you pay only the difference if you want something more expensive. All non alcoholic drinks are included. No, at this time not everyone in the same cabin has to buy it, but certainly they are watching to ensure that people aren't stealing drinks. While I spend more by having the drink package, I feel it is an excellent value and certainly enhances my trip. But I'm not going to pay more for my nonalcoholic drinks! My wife might do one bottle in 3 days. They keep your bottles using one of those vacuum-preservation systems (at least they did last time, not been on FOS yet but it's likely the same.) I'm not sure how much I actually spend, there's so much other stuff in the final bill it's hard to tease out.
Iluvcruising2 Posted December 5, 2012 Author #46 Share Posted December 5, 2012 Thanks everybody for the useful comments and suggestions. You know what? I am almost certain that I will give a wine package a try, for our upcoming 14 nighter out of Sydney which departs 8 Dec. Yes, just a couple more sleeps to go! I'll just go for the 5 bottle package, as we don't drink that much. I have looked through the lists and it does look like the Platinum Package provides nice options. I like reds a lot more than whites. Question - which reds would you recommend? Thank you in advance.
Dave from below Posted December 5, 2012 #47 Share Posted December 5, 2012 That comment is just RUDE! Everyone calm down and have a drink. Can I get the package for only one day and keep getting drinks to run back to my cabin and dump it in a big baggie? Hay I'm not smuggling.

I'm not a non drinker but I am also curious how much people spend on drinks because the RCCL Drink packagae seems so expensive I can't believe that it makes economic sense for most people. I cannot imagine very many couples spend more than $800 on alcohol for 7 days. And that is just to break even.

Oh the things I still learn every day  I wish I'd known this on my previous cruises, we would have definitely ordered wine per bottle! There's always the next cruise :D and the one after that :D and the one after that :D Our bar bill on our 7-day Allure cruise was around $180. We had 6 drinks, 8 glasses of wine, 3 bottles of Pellegrino and the rest was sodas my husband drinks.

My wife and I will probably do this because it gives us the freedom to choose whatever drink we want, when we want, without worrying about the cost. Otherwise she will often get a beer instead of a frozen drink etc. This will also allow her to try other drinks she normally would not get because she has never had them before. For me, I will be getting the beer package. We sit out at the pool all day, so for me it will be very easy to have 6 or 7 beers during the day. We will also have drinks at night and at the casino. I will probably break even. I am okay with that knowing that I do not have to worry about each drink.
