MaiTaiMary Posted December 31, 2012 #1 Share Posted December 31, 2012 What is the Chocolate Extravaganza? I've seen pictures in some reviews, but it's not clear what exactly it is. As a chocoholic.. I NEED to know this. ;) Thanks.
golfadj Posted December 31, 2012 #2 Share Posted December 31, 2012 It is a chocolate buffet the last sea day. DW and I primarily like milk chocolate but almost everything is bitter sweet so not our favorite. Now if they had one of pies that would be awesome. As a chocoholic.. I NEED to know this. ;) Thanks. Ah, well my dear... as a fellow non-recovering chocoholic, let me tell you that this is a thing of beauty and splendor not to be missed... I was able to achieve that elusive "chocolate high", that those of us addicts know and love... On our 7 day cruise it was held on the last day, and the last sea day, as a section in the buffet around lunchtime. There are some pics in my honeymoon review (page 11), link in my sig. Get there early, it fills up fast. Edited December 31, 2012 by kwagmyre
JerseyGirlJen Posted December 31, 2012 #4 Share Posted December 31, 2012 As golfadj said, it's a buffet on the last sea day. On my cruise a few weeks ago it was done in the afternoon, around lunchtime. I went into the buffet area to get some lunch towards the end of lunchtime (thinking the lines would be short), and lunch was already done and the chocolate buffet lines were long. I went to the Deli instead. The chocolate extravaganza lasts an hour or two, it's not very long, so plan accordingly.

Rowan555 Posted December 31, 2012 #7 Share Posted December 31, 2012 I love chocolate, but I am not a fan of the chocolate buffet - I prefer the chocolate cake at the cafe to any of the offerings of the "Extravaganza" - if you are truly a lover of chocolate, don't get your hopes up too high - it's a lot of different items, but the quality is lacking. tef43 Posted December 31, 2012 #8 Share Posted December 31, 2012 I think using the word "extravaganza" is total puffery.
Colorado Kat Posted December 31, 2012 #9 Share Posted December 31, 2012 Lots of different chocolate items, and some other sweets as well. Home-made marshmallows, jelly candies, etc. Fresh fruit that can be dipped into chocolate fountain. Pineapple is my favorite.
kingoftheicedragons Posted December 31, 2012 #10 Share Posted December 31, 2012 There's some dessert sushi as well--or like I've seen it mentioned in some land restaurant menus, frushi.
golfadj Posted December 31, 2012 #11 Share Posted December 31, 2012 I think using the word "extravaganza" is total puffery. Say the word chocolate and people do get excited but quality is kind of lacking
PAPERBKWRITER Posted December 31, 2012 #12 Share Posted December 31, 2012 The midnight choclate buffet of years past was really something. In comparision it's like a turkey sandwitch vs a turkey dinner.
Crusin Kelly Posted December 31, 2012 #13 Share Posted December 31, 2012 first time that I had a Chocolate Martini was one late evening at the "extravaganza"... the Perfect - absolutely PERFECT drink with chocolate cake! Like drinking chocolate sauce - with a buzz... :p
sflinch Posted January 1, 2013 #14 Share Posted January 1, 2013 Is this on all of the Carnival ships? :) My First Carnival Ship is Glory in April. :)
2 cruzen Posted January 1, 2013 #15 Share Posted January 1, 2013 Alas, it is only on 7 day or longer cruises. Our Breeze is only 6 days. :( Like most people stated, it's ok. I'm not a huge fan of fruit in my chocolate cake. The best chocolate cake IMO is the one from room service.

kona_wahine Posted January 1, 2013 #17 Share Posted January 1, 2013 As a fellow chocoholic I was deeply disappointed. When I think chocolate, I don't think pear, peach, raspberry chocolate covered whatever. I want chocolate! Lol
misguidedangel Posted January 1, 2013 #18 Share Posted January 1, 2013 The chocolate extravaganza is something every woman, no matter if she is on a low-calorie, no-carb, or any diet to say screw it and dive in to the delights the bakers on the ship have created. I love the banana fritters, the fudge and puddings are tasty...oh my, I'm salivating.... Remember ladies, Chocolate IS a food group for women! navybaby1113 Posted January 1, 2013 #19 Share Posted January 1, 2013 Not everything is delicious on the chocolate extravaganza, but they do have some yummy things. Here's some pictures I took on the Freedom last year.

Vettebuf Posted January 1, 2013 #21 Share Posted January 1, 2013 (edited) Although I'm a chocoholic, my favorite items there are the sugared almonds and walnuts, the orange peel, and the puff pastry swan with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce. Yum! I also only like the chocolate cake from the cafe. I think it lasted me two days though last time. The piece was so big. April can't get here fast enough! irie0518 Posted January 1, 2013 #24 Share Posted January 1, 2013 There was the chocolate extravaganza on our 5 day Fantasy cruise in Nov. So I don't think it is limited to 7 day or longer cruises.
lovestocruise19 Posted January 1, 2013 #25 Share Posted January 1, 2013 There was also a chocolate extravaganza on my honeymoon cruise on the Freedom, which was six days. Here is my plate for some more of your viewing pleasure: Also, if you like chocolate and alcohol, be sure to try the mocha chocolate getaway, my FAV cruise drink! :D This is available all week! Although on my particular cruise, I ordered one on the last day and they were all out!
