Astro Flyer Posted January 2, 2013 #3 Share Posted January 2, 2013 and I got off the ship Saturday... I think the only cure for my land sickness is another cruise. After a month or so at sea in the Navy many years ago a drink seemed to steady us when on land. :p
Cupcrazy Posted January 2, 2013 #4 Share Posted January 2, 2013 and I got off the ship Saturday... I think the only cure for my land sickness is another cruise. I've got a fever, and the only prescription is more cruising!
gcvt Posted January 2, 2013 #5 Share Posted January 2, 2013 I get maldisembarkation syndrome every time for up to two or three weeks. I usually only feel it when standing up. Brings back good memories :D

DrivesLikeMario Posted January 2, 2013 #7 Share Posted January 2, 2013 If you're speaking literally, take a Bonine. It will help. I was rocking for 3-4 days after one particularly wild cruise in an aft suite. Wish I had known about taking Bonine then.
Rare 4cats4me Posted January 2, 2013 #8 Share Posted January 2, 2013 It's called mal debarquement, literally translated, it means bad movement. I used to suffer from this 20 years ago but don't anymore.

swedish weave Posted January 2, 2013 #10 Share Posted January 2, 2013 I get some strange looks from people when I stagger from side to side pushing a grocery cart down the aisles of the store after a cruise.

vickie_bernie Posted January 2, 2013 #12 Share Posted January 2, 2013 :D yup as others have stated it is mal de debarkment, and it can last a long time. My doctor stated it was swellling in your brain from the movement and it take a bit of time for the swelling to go down. He perscribes anti inflamitories or you can just take over the counter ones. We use to get it really bad when we would land in port or once we got home but now we take an advil as soon as we feel something and it seems to help. It works for us. And we rarely have bad symptoms the more we have cruised. the main key is more cruising :p
PunkiC Posted January 2, 2013 #13 Share Posted January 2, 2013 I used to feel it after spending a few days on a sail boat, but almost never feel any movement at all on a cruise ship, and never ever feel any residual movement, even after a rough crossing. CruisinChris Posted January 2, 2013 #14 Share Posted January 2, 2013 Taking Bonine really helps. I can never predict when this will happen to me - it seems really random.
tennisobo Posted January 2, 2013 #15 Share Posted January 2, 2013 I used to get this, too. And all kidding aside, it did get better after we cruised more. I never have it after a cruise now. I kind of miss it! That's how much I enjoy cruising.

Have you tried the generic version of Bonine which is meclizine and much cheaper? My wife is prone to all types of motion sickness & she never leaves home without her meclizine. sjmbruce Posted January 2, 2013 #17 Share Posted January 2, 2013 i am glad i am not the only one! i am very sensitive to changes in my environment. elevation changes really screw me up. so of course i was pretty sensitive to the motion onboard during my 10 day cruise, and felt it for at least a week after getting home. about 48 hours after getting home, i attended my husband's family christmas party. i was feeling the motion pretty bad and was slightly dizzy. a "wave" of motion hit me so bad i leaned forward, grabbed the table, and asked my husband "did you feel that one?" sitting in a dining room, it felt just as it had when a wave hit the ship, stomach flip and all. next time, i'll know there's medicine out there to help!
