Sandgnat Posted January 9, 2013 #26 Share Posted January 9, 2013 I took my Dad on many cruises with me, and I don't regret one of them. We are taking his ashes on our Breeze cruise with us this time. It will be one year to the day that we lost our fantastic father. He loved cruising and what I wouldn't give to have one more cruise with him. Take your Mom and take lots of pictures. serene56 Posted January 10, 2013 #27 Share Posted January 10, 2013 i would book the french door cabins chesper then the oceanview. i would book you and honey in one room and your mom and son in another. your mom will need her space. being older we get set in our ways. i think putting all 4 in one cabin is a diaster waiting to happen. it may cost a little bit more but i would bet its not that much more
kjunea Posted January 10, 2013 #28 Share Posted January 10, 2013 I was going to go on a Disney cruise with my 9 year old last October. My 86 year old mother wanted to go, but didn't want to go on Disney (no casino!). I changed to the Dream. Then, my brother decided I couldn't take care of her and my son, so he had to go too. So we had an 86 year old, a 51 year old, 46 year old, a 9 year old, a fold up walker, fold up wheelchair and 2 CPAP machines in a Balcony. Crowded, a bit. Wonderful, definitely. My mom thanked my husband over and over again (who stayed home because he had to work) for letting her go with us. We made precious memories that we won't forgot. And my 9 year old had 3 of his favorite people together!
Cruzayear Posted January 10, 2013 #29 Share Posted January 10, 2013 If my kids are coming, then my Mom is coming it cost me more but I don't care. This go round I paid for Mom and her best friend to come along. My Mom still works so we try to vacation together as often as possible. None of us are promised tomorrow and I want as much time as possible for my self and my kids with their "Nanny".

Jdleong Posted January 10, 2013 #31 Share Posted January 10, 2013 Do an oceanview for 2 and then an inside across from it. 2 bathrooms are better than 4 in a cabin! Your mom and her grandson can bond!
5MNtravelbugs Posted January 10, 2013 #32 Share Posted January 10, 2013 After years of coaxing my very spry 90yo mother in law to go on a cruise with us we succeeded. God had other plans and took her from us in a tragic car accident before we could go. After all the things your mother has done for you... 1 week on a cruise will be fun and memorable!! I agree to take lots of pictures!! (We will be that mother some day):D

Your mom and her grandson can bond! I agree. Trying to all get dressed and ready in the mornings, or getting ready for dinner etc, could get quite hectic. If at all possible two rooms, but do bring Mom along.:)
RuthlessBoss Posted January 10, 2013 #34 Share Posted January 10, 2013 OP here We decided not to bring my Mom for several reasons. The only oceanview cabins that were available were right under the nightclub. The balcony cabins that are available will add to our costs for the three of us. We already spend a lot of time with Mom - My son is with her a lot since she lives only 45 minutes away. AND she has credit card debt that she needs to work on and has no business paying $ for a cruise. I know that's not our decision to make but she knows she needs to work on it. We decided that we'll plan further in advance next year and find a cruise for us, Mom and my sister in law and brother in law. Thanks for all the advice though! Hello folks. They made a decision based on finances.

I'm glad that your mother realized that she needed to be responsible about her debt and not spend money that she doesn't have on this cruise. (She is the one that made that decision, I assume?) I hope that next year she'll be in a secure financial position so that she can accompany you all on a cruise.
