tem0627 Posted January 10, 2013 #1 Share Posted January 10, 2013 Aside from the elegant night, what do guests generally wear the other nights in the MDR? We were planning on business casual - slacks/button down/polo and dresses the other nights. Will we be over/under dressed, or just right?

Cruise Traveler Susan Posted January 10, 2013 #3 Share Posted January 10, 2013 Sounds fine - I usually wear nice capri pants and a nice blouse on non-elegant nights. Husband wears nice jeans or khakis and a button shirt.
cruiseonthebrain Posted January 10, 2013 #4 Share Posted January 10, 2013 Agreed- that's what we do too. Sometimes I have gone with nice capris and a nice top, but the more casual dresses are just easier to pack.
dixieva Posted January 10, 2013 #5 Share Posted January 10, 2013 I don't take any dresses. Formal nights are dressy black pants with a sparkly top. Other nights it's pants or capris (mostly capris) with a nice top and sandals. So yes you will be fine.
roxiebarclay Posted January 10, 2013 #6 Share Posted January 10, 2013 You will be fine. At the same time, a large percent of people will be dressed more casually. Shorts and polo tops. Even on the elegant night, many people are not dressed up. So don't get too worried about it.
soapbxking Posted January 10, 2013 #7 Share Posted January 10, 2013 I agree!! I usually wear a nice pair of jeans and a collared or button down shirt! Some wear khaki pants. Either way will be fine as long as you dont look dishevelled. :-)
lauraezzell Posted January 10, 2013 #8 Share Posted January 10, 2013 You'll be fine. I wore a dress each night but my husband wore either a polo shirt or a button down shirt with either khaki pants or a nice pair of jeans.

mikewrit Posted January 10, 2013 #10 Share Posted January 10, 2013 Unfortunately, soapbxking, some of us look dishevelled in our most formal rigs.

Back in the day everyone looked sharp in their dress whites. I looked like Pigpen:(.

tem0627 Posted January 10, 2013 Author #14 Share Posted January 10, 2013 HAHA LukeDuke - that's awesome... On formal night, should my hubs bring his suit jacket, or just a tie?

I saw lots of both so either would be fine. I wore a suit because DW and I got some formal portraits done.
tem0627 Posted January 10, 2013 Author #16 Share Posted January 10, 2013 Great idea Sparks. Our daughter wants to dress up in one of her Disney Princess dresses; so that would make for some sweet formal pics! =)

dixieva Posted January 10, 2013 #19 Share Posted January 10, 2013 On our last cruise we actually saw a man being turned away from the dining room on formal night! He had on a t-shirt, shorts and a baseball cap. The wife was also in shorts and they had a kid with them. Yep turned away! I have to say I was surprised to see this but happy to see it also. I can appreciate it that some folks don't want to dress up (even long pants and a polo shirt which would have been fine that night) but eat somewhere else if you want to wear your shorts on formal night. It makes it hard to only pick one or two:o.

tef43 Posted January 10, 2013 #22 Share Posted January 10, 2013 Strange but true: The food tastes exactly the same regardless of what anyone else in the dining room is wearing.
cparkerkite Posted January 10, 2013 #23 Share Posted January 10, 2013 Will we be appropriately dressed if I wear a church dress and my hubby a suit? I just hate the thought of buying a cocktail dress since I would never wear it again. Of course my daughter will be dressed in her adorable little dresses! Also I was thinking of bringing another dress and a pair of capris and a top and re-wear them again? Is this "cruise" acceptable? i have a tendency to over pack, so I wanted to be good and pack as light as possible! 😊
dixieva Posted January 10, 2013 #24 Share Posted January 10, 2013 Sure! I pack with mix and match in mind and always wear at least one thing-top and pants- twice. Trust me no one will notice.

I've seen some that have made me ill. It involved spandex...
