queenb2850 Posted January 20, 2013 #1 Share Posted January 20, 2013 I love cruising and am going on my first princess cruise in May. I usually cruise carnival and love the party atmosphere. Will I find princess dull and boring?
Liz54 Posted January 20, 2013 #2 Share Posted January 20, 2013 Possibly. The decor on Princess is much more subdued and the night life does not go too late compared to Carnival. If you love Carnival, what were you looking for that made you switch?
paul929207 Posted January 20, 2013 #3 Share Posted January 20, 2013 Who knows? We have been on Carnival twice and were very disappointed with the service. Our cabin steward and waiter were the worst we have ever had. We found the ship very crowded and there were mobs of kids everywhere. So we enjoy Princess. We leave for our 28 cruise with them. We start partying the night before we board. There are 50+ meeting for drinks that night. The next day is sailaway and it is also Australia Day, so we will join our friends from down under for sailaway and the national holiday
Rottweiler Puppy Posted January 20, 2013 #4 Share Posted January 20, 2013 I love cruising and am going on my first princess cruise in May. I usually cruise carnival and love the party atmosphere. Will I find princess dull and boring? Its much more laid back. I cruise Carnival at times but Princess was a nice break from the loud one pool lido crowd. I thought it was just as fun as Carnival but a toned down version. The ship was a ghost town after 9:
queenb2850 Posted January 20, 2013 Author #5 Share Posted January 20, 2013 I always look for more bang for my buck and the carnival ship that was offered at the time of booking had nothing on her. I am the type of person that likes mini golf, movies, karayoke and I dance everytime I hear music.

queenb2850 Posted January 20, 2013 Author #8 Share Posted January 20, 2013 speaking of sailaway, does princess have a sailaway party?
Pam in CA Posted January 20, 2013 #9 Share Posted January 20, 2013 thanks for the replies. I guess I will just have to be the one to start the party. :o)You may be alone or among the few. Princess is not a party cruise line. The tag line "escape completely" pretty much sums it up. Yes. There's a sailaway party.
queenb2850 Posted January 21, 2013 Author #10 Share Posted January 21, 2013 thanks Pam. I don't mind being alone. It is always me, myself and I. :o) Hee Hee I will be with two other fun women. I too am in So Cal. I live in Norco. Do you know where that is?

Worn out mailman Posted January 21, 2013 #13 Share Posted January 21, 2013 I love cruising and am going on my first princess cruise in May. I usually cruise carnival and love the party atmosphere. Will I find princess dull and boring? Our Eastern Caribbean cruise was much more sedate than our Western. I think Jamaica and Cozumel being in the itinerary draws a younger crowd. There was a major good classic rock band, and the ship certainly wasn't dead at 9:30, even on the final night. Having said those things, if by party atmosphere you mean lots of people being drunk, misbehaving in the hot tubs, throwing deck chairs overboard etc., then you should expect much less on a Princess cruise. :)

After sailing on an NCL cruise after Crystal I am sooo ready for a quieter atmosphere.

cruise42112 Posted January 21, 2013 #16 Share Posted January 21, 2013 If you are looking for the party, see if your ship has the Skywalkers Club - my husband and I spent most of our nights up there and found a great party atmosphere! We were out til past midnight pretty much every night on our last cruise on Princess.

RMM34667 Posted January 21, 2013 #18 Share Posted January 21, 2013 Princess is head and shoulders above Carnival. Knees, Head and Shoulder above. I sail Carnival and enjoy it. But really prefer the Princess atmosphere.
queenb2850 Posted January 21, 2013 Author #19 Share Posted January 21, 2013 not my meaning at all. on carnival, they had bands in the casino and a dance area where ever you heard music playing. I just like to have fun, not be obnoxious or drunk.

queenb2850 Posted January 21, 2013 Author #22 Share Posted January 21, 2013 thanks Paul. I went there earlier and there was no roll call for my cruise date. So I made one and as of this evening, noone is on my ship. Yeah, I get the whole ship to myself. :o)

I am the type of person that likes mini golf, movies, karayoke and I dance everytime I hear music. The last ship we were on (Crown Princess) had mini golf, movies under the stars, karaoke, a night club, lots of music to dance to..... I think you'll have a great time aboard a Princess ship!
